Happy 2008

Hello all my long-neglected blog friends. I've decided to chalk 2007 up as a bust and move on to 2008 without guilt. My blogging last year seriously sucked. Probably because a lot of things in my life seriously sucked, but you know - there were a lot of good things too. I think I focused too much on the bad things and not enough on the things I still had in my life that I should have been thankful for. So, in 2008 I'm moving on and keeping a positive mindset about life and everything that it holds. I haven't stopped knitting, baking, and sewing... the spinning hasn't been very steady, but I hope to make some time for that too, and I have big plans for the projects I want to conquer this year.

I've been working on a new pair of socks with an entirely new construction method.

New Sock Construction
New Heel

This is the Bartholomew's Tantalizing Socks from New Pathways for Sock Knitters by Cat Bordhi in Socks that Rock (my first time ever using STR!). I'm knitting it using magic loop and I have to tell you, I was skeptical, but the construction is brilliant. I'm at the heel on the second sock, so I'll have some modeled photos when the pair is done.

I've also been baking ... a lot. My latest attempt is a new recipe for cinnamon rolls.

Cinnamon Rolls

I love that these are large rolls - only 2 across and 4 down in a 9x13 pan. I haven't tried them yet, but I'll let you know what I think after breakfast tomorrow.

I finally got a Ravelry account, and I have these socks put in, but I need to spend some time setting it up. Any of you with accounts have any tips for the best way to get everything input? It seems like a daunting task. Oh, and there's no way I'm going to be able to catch up on all my blog reading, so I'm starting that from scratch today too. I hope I still have some readers and I can't wait to see what everyone has been up to. Happy New Year.

Don't let Ravelry overwhelm you. One project at a time is best.

Hearing from you is a great way to start the new year! Hooray!
Oh, and happy new year, too. Welcome back, sweetie.

Glad to see you're back - I always enjoy reading your blog. As far as Ravelry goes, go ahead and enter your stash text first, take all your photos, and then match the photos to the specific yarn all at once. Also, subscribe to the RSS feeds for your friends' activity so you can see what they're adding to their queues - and only add to your queue what you really plan to make - any other "maybe" patterns you can just favorite. (My Ravelry ID is DarthKnitter.) But most importantly - just have fun with it!

I've been reading your blog off and on, and I'm glad you are back. Happy new year!

happy new year! don't sweat 2007 -- that's what new years are all about. out with the bad and in with the good!

as for ravelry, my advice is to tackle it a bit at a time and get your pics into flickr (if they're not there already).

it took me a good couple months before everything was input. when i wanted some time away from knitting i'd take an hour or so and input some project or some stash. before i knew it, they were all in there!

I am so glad you posted. I was going to email you a happy new years wish even though you don't know me. I have come to your blog everyday for 2 years. I think I have commented only once though. So happy new year!
My tip on ravelry is just start where you are. I didn't back track I just added what I had in progress and moved on from there. And amazing enough my notebook has grown. I am JenBrenneman on ravelry. Glad to see you back.

It's so nice to have you back! Add things as you wish...there isn't any rush. I only added things I wanted to see often. Do what feels good and enjoy it. It is a great resource!

Glad you're back! Even though I was a sporadic reader/ commenter I worried when you went *off the air*. Ravelry is great- I agree with the those saying start with what you are working on and build from there. A little at a time. Otherwise it can be overwhelming. Cinnamon rolls look great! Best wishes for a wonderful New Year in 2008!

It's nice to see you back! I had almost given up, but something told me to check your site today. :)

Your Bartholomew's socks are lovely! I only managed to knit two sample socks from New Pathways last year, but I have big plans to use the patterns in the book this year (lots of hand dyed sock yarn in my stash).

Happy New Year!

I am loving the new constructions. That sock is definitely on my list :-)

As for Ravelry, I just started most recent and work my way backwards as best I could. For stash I've only input new purchases since I got my account or ones that I had previously photographed for the blog. Just don't turn it into work of you won't have fun :-)

Glad to see you back Stephanie. Here's to a great 2008. I always enjoy reading your blog, so keep it up (at least once in awhile). I enjoy seeing your projects - including the sewing!
