Another Sock

The next sock in the basket is the Undulating Rib sock from the ever-popular Favorite Socks book from IK. The yarn ... well the yarn is the Ocean Minerals from Piece of Beauty.

Undulating Rib

The yarn isn't as blue as it looks - it's greener. Greenish turquoise I suppose. Piece of Beauty switched from a superwash merino to a superwash BFL sock yarn and I was skeptical when I ordered it. Not because I have anything against BFL, but because I loved the merino so much. I have to say, I'm very impressed with this yarn. It's soft (I was worried about it's softness), yet feels like it will wear well. All in all, a great sock yarn.

I'm using my new Lantern Moon Sox Stix for this project. Size 1 - 2.25mm. The pattern called for a US 3 and 4 and I was stumped by that because the gauge is 18 sts to 2 inches. That's 9 stitches per inch. I measured my gauge on the Retro Rib socks and it was about 17 sts to 2 inches. I know this is different yarn, but not that different. I just can't imagine a fingering weight (which is the weight specified in the pattern) sock yarn knit on size 3 needles. Am I crazy? Anyway, I don't know what my gauge is for this sock, but it looks to be about the right size and the pattern is super stretchy. So I'm pretty sure it will fit my sister.

Yesterday was a big baking day at my house. I made more Oatmeal Toasting Bread. I'll save you from a picture because it looks just about like the last batch. And since I was on an oatmeal kick I decided to make oatmeal raisin cookies too. I tried a new recipe - more of a refrigerator dough - and I really, really like them.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

They're large, which Travis likes, and very soft and chewy. I don't like oatmeal raisin cookies that get hard and these definitely aren't. I also like that they didn't get really flat, which is a common problem I have with cookies. So, I made a mark in the cookbook and will make these again.

The sock looks great! Now you have to share the recipe, or at least what book the recipe for those cookies is in!

It's great to see that stitch pattern up close. I had marked it for my grandma, and now I think it's definitely a winner. Am I a wimp for running away from any wool that isn't merino??

Pretty socks! And I like a soft yet chewy oatmeal cookie, too. I used to have a good recipe, but seem to have lost it (or more likely, forgot what book it's in). The recipe I usually use, my grandma's, is soft and cakelike -- still better than hard, but a little chewy is nice!

The sock looks beautiful -- I love the colors.
I don't like oatmeal raisin cookies that get flat either. What book is the recipe from?

I have been looking at that yarn for ages, not knowing whether to try it, I think that I will seeing how beautifully your socks have knit up! I wish I could pop round to you for afternoon tea, imagine all the gorgeous cakes you would make, your baking looks so tasty. :)

Your cookies look lovely, I like them chewy and a bit soft as well, not hard. Your socks are fab, I'm jealous, I CANNOT for the life of me, master socks. Even though I have that book, which I thought would make me a great sock knitter. Maybe I need to sleep with it closer to my bed??!!

I love the colors in the new socks. I think the colors do a nice job of showcasing the stitch pattern. As usual, your baking looks great!

There are so many good reasons that book is so popular. Looking lovely.

i love oatmeal cookies...i also like to play with the add ins, such as using chocolate chips or chips and nuts, dried cranberries...no matter what it is all yummy!

I love me some crunchy cookies....I know I'm the only one who dislikes soft cookies but the texture grosses me out when they're not crispy.

Oh, and my mom taught me that using cold dough makes the cookies not flatten out. Don't know if it's true, but my cookies don't flatten!

Those cookies look beautiful! If they taste half as good as they look, then they must be terrific.

And I love the Undulating Rib sock! I'm knitting those for my sock pal right now. The pattern looks great with the PoB yarn--what a lovely colorway!

I looked at those socks last night and wondered the same thing - it seems like a few of the socks in that book have needle sizes WAY out of whack for the size yarn.

What cookbook are the cookies from? Oatmeal raisin are both hubby and my FAVORITES!

Fabulous color. Fabulous sock, also; I have the IK book and I don't remember this pattern being so beautiful. I love it.

Yum soft chew oatmeal raising cookies - my mouth is watering. Love the sock pattern you picked.

Those socks are on my to-do list too, and it looks like that yarn is going on my to-buy list!

I am in the market for a new digital camera. Do you still love your Canon SD800? I am not looking for anything as fancy as a digital SLR.
