Knee Highs

I finally finished my lovely knee highs. I've been working on these for a long time, and I'm glad that they're done so I can wear them!

Knee Highs
Knee High Toes

Project Details:

Yarn: Piece of Beauty "Boathouse" - custom dyed for the longer repeat necessary for the knee highs. I used a little less than 3 skeins of the Boathouse and less than one skein of the Boathouse Blue for the heels, toes, and ribbing.

Pattern: A basic toe-up pattern based on Diana's knee highs

Needles: I started on 2.0mm dpns and finished the second sock using magic loop. I love my dpns, but I'm really liking magic loop too. It made the sock go so quickly (well, the second sock went fast once I dedicated myself to finishing it).

Thoughts: I made these socks with some negative ease so they don't slide down, and I wore them for an entire day without any sliding. The length of my legs made these socks go on forever; I was sure I was never going to finish. Sometimes being tall is a real pain in the ass.

They are so lovely! Such patience you must have to finish them. I hope you get lots of wear from them!

Tell me about it! I'd need a couple more inches of length than you did! Great color and they'll be perfect for WY winters. Nice photos, too!
I'm using magic loop for sleeves and love it more than DPNs.

The yarn! I love the yarn! It knit up into the most perfect, beautiful, non-pooling-but-still-slightly-variegated stripes! How have I not heard of Piece of Beauty yarn before now? Excuse me, I have a website to go visit.

cute, well worth the effort! its great that they don't slide down too.

Posted by: Diana at March 8, 2007 3:02 PM

Congrats! Those are cute and obviously functional. What dainty calves you have...at least compared to me. :)

Yahooooo...they're DONE! Great job, great yarn, and, um, pretty nice legs, too! I will never make knee socks, and I'm short.

They are wonderful!

Posted by: Carole at March 8, 2007 3:28 PM

wow, they turned out great!! i was really afraid that the stripes wouldn't march on as regularly towards the top but they did! they look perfect.

They're awesome! Congrats on finally finshing them.

They look so great! That was very smart thinking to get them dyed with the longer repeat. I can't believe how they don't pool at all!

They are really really perfect. I am in love with those knee highs. And yes, being tall sucks when you are knitting socks and sleeves but they sure do look great.

Posted by: Erin at March 8, 2007 4:41 PM

I just can't feel sorry for you on the "tall" issue. I tried, it didn't happen. The socks are great. You do lovely work!

Posted by: Stephanie at March 8, 2007 4:44 PM

those are fabulous - the "forever knitting" is totally worth it. dy-no-mite!

Those knee-highs look great! I forgot you were still working on those. I really like the yarn that you used. I have thought off and on about knitting knee-highs, but I think that won't happen. I don't think I really want to do it. I love yours though. Great job on the painting too. I love that chocolate brown color you painted the walls.

These knee-highs look great! I wish I had a pair to combat the late winter weather we're having. (And I love the how the colors are so nice and even.)

Those are some fun knee highs!

Wow, I love the knee socks and also your organizing and your bedroom. I used to do painting on Mountain Woods Furniture (MWF) when I lived in Laramie, Wyoming. Your bed looks like a MWF piece. They have great nitestands.

those are beauties! love them!

Those knee-highs are beautiful! It's good to know that the decreases at the top keep them up. That would be what held me back from knitting up a pair. One of my biggest pet peeves is socks that fall down!

Posted by: Elinor at March 9, 2007 9:33 PM

Gorgeous!

Posted by: AJ at March 10, 2007 6:26 PM

just to say, the sock is very beautiful, and the colourway is perfect.

What a wonderful job you did on those socks. They look great on you.
