I've Been Painting
Besides being a bit depressed and in a lazy funk (I can also throw sick in there so you don't think I'm a total bum), I've been painting. No, I didn't go get any artistic talent while you weren't looking. I've been painting my bedroom. Painting, while a big project, always makes me feel productive. So, tell me what you think.
Before:

And After:

I still need new lamps and night tables, but I have limited space next to the bed so it might take me awhile to find the right ones. The dresser is my Valentine's Day present from Travis and does a lot to open up a fairly small room. I need to order a roman shade for the window by the bed, but I'm not putting anything on the bay windows for now because I really never need to block off those windows. Living in the country does have some benefits, and not needing curtains is one of them. I was worried the dark brown would be too much, but with the light quilt on the bed and the light carpet, I think it's ok. What do you think?
I promise I've been knitting and have a couple of finished projects to show you - finally. I'm going to try to get out of my funk and post on this here blog a bit more often. I miss you guys.

I love the color. It looks very soothing and peaceful, yet sophisicated. Very nice.

The contrast between the dark walls and light bedspread really makes the room work. It looks beautiful, nice job!

I feel like Im on one of those TLC or HGTV shows
I love the way it came out, the color changed the room so much. Even the wood from the bed looks different.
Posted by: yahaira at March 7, 2007 10:43 AM
I think the darker walls show off all the wood in the room much better than the light walls did. The light bedspread is perfect. Very sophisticated (and would probably look gorgeous in candlelight...)

I love it! Such a great change. And at first I thought you also got a new bed, but then I realize that you didn't! The light bedspread truly makes a difference.

LOVE the paint color, it really makes the room look nice, and a little bigger too.

We missed you too!
The bedroom is SUCH an improvement! It looks much more sophisticated now. The light bedding and the dark walls are a great match!

You have a good eye. The color really makes the room and I agree it is a sophisticated look. Nice job! We've missed you and look forward to seeing more of you (and your FOs, too!).

Very dramatic-love it!!

Oh, if I could only have more color on my walls too! I love the combo. :)
Posted by: Kelli at March 7, 2007 12:14 PM
hope you are feeling better and mabye the paint fumes killed some of the germs off!
I love it! I am a huge brown fan, and I think it totally transforms the room into a cozy place - really great choice!!!
PS - I re-org'd my craft room...have to take some pics to post!
Posted by: stacey at March 7, 2007 12:18 PM
It looks great - very modern. I've been wanting to redo some rooms in my house, but my husband is insisting we spend money on boring things like fixing the roof first. =)
Posted by: Zarah at March 7, 2007 12:18 PM
That's wonderful. I was worried at first when I started to see the dark color, how it would work with the first comfortor, but the white is amazing. The color also brings out the bed. It seems cozy and relaxing.
I'd kill for your bed. Where'd you get it?
Posted by: Stacey at March 7, 2007 12:26 PM
Wow! What a change! it looks really nice.
Posted by: Emily at March 7, 2007 12:32 PM
Brown was definitely the right choice. It looks great! I hope that you feel better and more positive soon.
Posted by: Hillary at March 7, 2007 12:35 PM
Wow -- it looks amazing! It's always inspiring to see what a gallon of paint and some elbow grease can accomplish. It's really impressive how much richer the moldings and the furniture looks. Nice!!
Posted by: Ann at March 7, 2007 12:43 PM
I was just thinking of you! Glad to see you. The room looks great!
Posted by: Cara at March 7, 2007 12:45 PM
Looks fabulous! Ditto what everyone else has said - I love the dark paint and light quilt! Very cozy, but still sophisticated.
For lamps, have you seen the swing arm sconces from Restoration Hardware? (http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1051001&navCount=2) We just put a couple of these up (the library style), and I love them. It is so nice to not have a lamp taking up space on the bedside table. More room for books & knitting!

I love the brown and the new bedding. Very modern while still being cozy. Nice work!

i love the dark brown. it looks perfect with your bedding and bed frame. i think darker bedrooms are more calming than a lighter one.
can't wait to see your knitting FOs!

Much better! The color is gorgeous, especially with the beautiful quilt! The contrast between dark and light works so well.

The bedroom is lovely, the colour looks so warm and calm.
But the craft room, ooh, I could die happy in there. I love your needle wall hangings, such a cute idea.

I love it! Soothing and rich and cozy...It highlights the wood perfectly!
(((hugs)))

I wondered what you've been up to (sorry you haven't been up to snuff!) and love the new look. Of course, I looked at the second picture and thought "hmm, she's messing with us...it's the same color!), then scrolled down one! Know what looks great with that dark brown? Ice blue. Just saying.

It's a whole new look, and it's great!
Posted by: Theresa at March 7, 2007 5:40 PM
I love that color. It is so deep and rich and the lightness of the bedding really sets it off. I wouldn't cover that window either!! What light!! I've always wanted that kind of window to put a window seat in......
Posted by: chris at March 7, 2007 6:31 PM
What a fantastic color you painted your bedroom. I absolutely love it, and I think it brings the room together well. Much better than the blue/gray colors you had before too.
Posted by: Sue at March 7, 2007 7:15 PM

it's like a whole new room! love it.
Posted by: kris at March 8, 2007 3:04 AM
It's fantastic...but I'm partial to brown, I have a chocolate brown study. I had the same worry, that all that dark color would close off the room, but the light bedspread really keeps it open. The lighting in that room is beautiful, too.
looking forward to seeing your knitting projects!

Doesn't even look like the same room.
Posted by: Diane at March 8, 2007 9:37 PM
I love the colour, it has a feeling of a coccoon, great for a bedroom. A blind a similar colour to the bed throw would look nice, or maybe gold??? Hope you feel better soon, I find chocolate helps ALOT!!!
Posted by: liz at March 9, 2007 3:53 AM
That's the exact same color as my bedroom. We chose the color because the room is flooded with sunlight at the crack of dawn and no amount of shades/curtains helped in the summer when sunrise was around 5 a.m.! It took some getting used to but now I love it. It's like a den I can curl up in! I hope you enjoy yours just as much!
Posted by: Elinor at March 9, 2007 9:30 PM
I love your dark walls and light carpet. Had to comment because we have the same bed. We live in CT, but bought it from the Amish up in Maine.
Posted by: Mary at March 10, 2007 8:04 AM
Wow...beautiful...what a transformation.
Posted by: Leslie at March 11, 2007 1:28 PM
I love the color and I didn't even notice the furniture before but that color draws your eyes into the room. To add a third layer of color I have seen similar rooms add small accents of a bright green or orange. Very nice!
Posted by: Monica at March 11, 2007 4:44 PM
It looks great! What a difference and the quilt really stands out, it doesn't darken the room in the least. Very sophisticated.
