When It Snows...

Snowy.jpg

The only thing to do is stay inside and spin and knit. Friday night spinning went well. I sat down at about 7:30 and spun for 2 hours. I'm pretty pleased with the singles - they seem to be fairly even (or at least they look like it at this point).

I still have some roving left to spin, but I think that will be for the Friday after next. I won't be spinning next Friday because I'm going to Phoenix for my best friend's baby shower.

I made good progress on the baby Dale, I finished the chart on the chest and am working on the plain white on the upper portion of the body. I'll have more on that tomorrow. In amusing events, Riley likes to hide his greenies before he eats them (usually under the pillow on the guest bed). Yesterday he decided to hide it under the file cabinet (and he managed to get it too far under to get out by himself). This is what it looks like when Riley and his dad try to rescue the greenie.

I spent most of Saturday afternoon outside helping Travis with the ridiculous amount of snow in our driveway. I had to get the horses in because the idiots will stand out in the wind and snow until they freeze to death. I swear. Then I got to run the snow blower. Man, that is hard work, especially when the wind is blowing 70 miles per hour (and I am not kidding). Then we put up the snow fence (better late than never). The purpose is to break the wind and make the snow fall right behind the fence, rather than drift the driveway shut).

Yesterday I knit and took the Christmas tree down and put all the decorations away. The holidays are officially over. The tree has been hauled outside, the pine needles have been swept up, and the furniture rearranged. We've even eaten all the cookies and candy - so it's back to the real world.

Are you serious on the horses? Oh my, poor things...glad you got them in...that's a LOT of snow. Beautiful spinning!

The spinning is awesome. And back to the real world feels good, I think.

glad to hear you are safe and sound, and the horses too! you will think i am crazy, but we are so jealous of you here in ny where saturday was 70 degrees! send some white stuff our way!

Posted by: kaetlyn at January 8, 2007 7:48 AM

Sounds like a lot of hard work this weekend. What's a greenie?

Posted by: Angela at January 8, 2007 7:55 AM

look at all that snow! i can hardly remember what that feels like. sounds like a lot of hard work but i'm glad you're all safe and warm indoors now. and that riley got his greenies back!

Wow, the storm must have split around us like it usual does (but hadn't yet this season). We didn't get much more than 1.5-2 in. We heard Loveland and Windsor got quite a bit more and you guys obviously did too. We did get the high winds though!

Congrats on the spinning and the baby sweater progress despite all the snow moving of the weekend!

We had a white out on the way to Park City because of the drifting snow and the freeway signs said I-80 was closed at Rawlins. I thought of you! It was fun to spin Friday with the knowledge that others were also spinning their wheels.

Wow! That's a lot of snow. I'm glad I live in California.

Posted by: Jessica at January 8, 2007 9:33 AM

I don't know about you, but I'm so over the snow. We're supposed to get another big storm this weekend. :-(

Digging out is the worst part.

wow! i can't help but think that you and colorado got everyone else's snow. did you know that it was almost 70 degrees in NYC on saturday?! totally beautiful. it was strange.

riley is a funny dog :) i love it when they hide things and then want you to find them.

Glad to know you aren't completely buried out there. This winter has been so bizarre. I'm in Milwaukee and it's been hovering in the 40's. This time 3 years ago we had a high of 13 degrees for 4 days! (I know because I was in the hospital having a baby and kept fretting about getting a newborn home in that cold!!)

Anyway your singles are beautiful. The sheen is great and they look so even. :)
Enjoy the knitting/spinning time and don't blow away!

horses are brilliant like that - mine used to love the wind and rain...

your spinning looks great - very even!

I am so JEALOUS that you have all that snow! It has been raining and raining and raining and every time it rains I think "imagine the snow this could've been". When we moved here (maine) 8 years ago, people said "now you'll know what wintah's really like". Pu-lease. Hasn't happened yet! (We came from central NY, lake effect snow land...I think you have even bigger winter where you are!) ...found you on zeneedle from stumbling over chaos!

I'd offer to take some of that snow off your hands, but that's kind of unrealistic.

Posted by: claudia at January 8, 2007 3:14 PM

Wow that is a lot of snow!

Your spinning looks beautiful.

Isn't it fun when the pups try to help, Abner gets rigth down there and thinks he's so much help, but we both know differently.

Can't wait to see the baby sweater!

My parents' dog LOVES greenies. She's gotten so fat and lazy, she never gets excited about anything anymore. Except Greenies!

Glad to hear you got your bleachers set up. Now you can get the Jackalope races going once the snow melts! And they're pretty good about holding back the snow in winter, too. :)

Snow? Gosh, what's THAT?? Although, I think I remember it from when I was a child....

Posted by: --Deb at January 8, 2007 4:30 PM

Holy crap! You're right to stay inside and spin. Keep warm!!!

Posted by: diana at January 8, 2007 5:28 PM

Great snow picture! Looks like the snow is missing us this year and hitting you double.

Posted by: Birdsong at January 8, 2007 7:29 PM

That's some crazy snow. I just barely got out of Colorado before the latest storm hit. (Whew!)

Posted by: Zarah at January 8, 2007 7:36 PM

Wow - I am amazed by all that snow.
Your singles look really good. Can you believe that I've been wanting to spin again?
Looking forward to seeing baby Dale!

That's a lot of snow! Do take care!

Hi there! First let me tell you that I really enjoy reading your blog. I just noticed that we got very similiar cameras for Christmas and I am still figuring mine out. Secondly, I would like to request that you please send a bunch of snow my way, as I live in southern NJ and it was around 70 degrees on Saturday! I miss the snow!

Thanks for the great blog!

What an amazing amount of snow! It looks as if it all ended up in your neck of the woods (instead of being spread out all across the country as it should be!)
Your spinning looks lovely.

Wow, what a lot of snow! I live in the Boston area and usually have snow at this time of year. Alas, not this year!

I've been snooping on your blog mostly because of your great shots of the Noni bag. I'm thinking to make one. Your shot from the flower creation is very helpful. I would love to see it all together with the bag and flower.

Thanks!

Do you ever wonder what it was like to have been a pioneer family? At least you didn't have to tie a tether rope around your waist to use the snowblower!
