Progress on the Baby Dale
I'm both pleased and disappointed in the progress I've made on the baby Dale. I'm pleased because I think my colorwork has improved dramatically, but I'm disappointed because it won't be done on Saturday for the baby shower. This sweater is for my best friend Ashley. It's her first baby and her husband is Norwegian. I made the sweater an 18 month size so the little guy can wear it next Christmas when they go to Norway to visit Torstein's family (and hopefully it will fit a year from now). So, there really isn't any need to get it finished in time for the shower, except I wanted it to be done. Grrr.
I finished the colorwork on the chest and have a few inches of white stockinette to finish before I can start the sleeves.

There's no way I can get the body finished, two sleeves knit, steeks cut, and the whole thing put together by Friday. I told Ashley (she actually picked the pattern, so this isn't a surprise gift) and she's fine with it. The little guy is due in late February, so I want to have it done and mailed by then (that's the new goal).
I'm hopeful that the roads will be open tomorrow and I'll be back at work as usual. However, it was really nice to be home putzing around today. It's amazing how much I can get done when I set my mind to it. That was a good reminder for me. Now to just find the right professional fit and all will be right with the world. Have a great day, and if you'd like some snow, please let me know. I'm giving mine away for free if you'll come pick it up.

The sweater looks great! And yes, I'd love some snow over here, it's not feeling like winter at all. Just pack it up and send it to France, will ya? :)

It's looking beautiful!

Please send snow! I'm dying to go skiing... some time this winter, please, but the weather is definitely not in my favor.
The sweater is coming out beautifully! I mean it! I love how the dark snowflakes really stand out against the lighter background.

It was amazing to see your photos of snow yesterday. The weather patterns this winter are so strange. Along the southeastern coast, we have had above average temperatures for over 30 days. The plants have been fooled into thinking it is spring. We will have some freezing weather this week. I don't think any of the fruit tress will be harmed but we have bulbs sprouting and the grass is turning green. I haven't felt much like knitting sweaters or socks!

I love the colours in the baby sweater. I am sure it will be so lovely on. The thought of steeks makes me scared so I will be interested to see it done! I wish I could collect a bag of snow but it would melt here as it isn't cold.

Looks awesome Steph! Your stitches are so even.

that looks great - you have really even tension! its too bad it won't be done, but once it is, i'm sure she'll appreciate all the work that went into it!
um, i'll pass on the snow - none here yet, but i'd like to keep it that way. well, then again, maybe a little for the dogs to bury themselves in...they do love that.

i'm loving this sweater! it's so cute.. and speaking of which, steeking was on my list of things to do in 2007 so maybe i should make this sweater too later this year. remind me of the pattern if you get the chance ;)

It might be tough to get to you to pick up the snow! The sweater is looking great and the rest of it will go quickly.

that's going to be one cute sweater! I agree...better to take your time.

Such a cute sweater!
I'll pass on the snow, thankyouverymuch. They are actually forecasting a possibility of snow here on Thursday night. Yikes. I think I prefer my snow up in the mountains, where I can drive to visit it!

I'd love some snow. And picking it up in person from you would be even better.
Posted by: Carole at January 9, 2007 8:45 AM
Beautiful. Gorgeous. Stunning!
Oh, and thanks for the offer, but I'll pass on the snow.

Take the rest of the week off...bet you could finish that sweater! Which is making me very jealous, by the way. If I don't finish mine soon, it won't fit the baby, let alone either of the other two grandchildren! Please send us some snow..our grass is still green and the forsythia is sprouting!

It's always fun to know everyone at the shower will ooh and ahh over your handknits. But we're all doing that at home!
Posted by: Kaitie Tee at January 9, 2007 10:05 AM
Oh, it IS gorgeous!

I know it's disappointing to miss a knitting deadline, but that's one of the realities of hand-made gifts, right? And they're still better than store-bought. The little sweater looks beautiful and if I were you I would be really proud to have taken the time to make the colorwork look just right.
Oh, and once you're done with THIS project, I'm needing some Butterfly pictures... :)

If only I could get out there and bring the snow back here, I would take as much as you felt you could spare. :) Alas, we're limited to knitted snowflakes here.

The DAle is looking lovely. What a perfect present for that baby, considering it's norweigian heritage.

It's looking great! And if you'd like the oo's and ahh's of those in attendace at the shower you could always wrap it with the ndls in place. We had a few do that at the last shower...

I love the Baby Dale sweater, just beautiful. I am sure it will be worth the wait. I would love some snow, just melt it and send it to Melbourne, Australia, so we can get out of the drought we are having.

The sweater is gorgeous. I also love the snowflake design.
As for the snow...I'm in Colorado, so I've got more than enough!
Posted by: Kathy at January 9, 2007 2:25 PM
aww! the cuteness!
does this mean you will knit a norwegian steeked sweater for your norwegian knitting friend who will also be celebrating norwegian christmas in norway with her norwegian family this year?
Posted by: kris at January 9, 2007 2:45 PM
gorgeous sweater. I love the snowflakes.
Snow? they're predicting it for our area tonight. It would be an improvement over all our scads of rain - perhaps I'd even get snowed in :-) (a little bit of snow around here and everything shuts down - not enough snow plows!)

I'd love to have snow! And the sweater looks beautiful!

Your colorwork is absolutely stunning! Very pretty colors and pattern!

ok it may be a litle bit late for the shower...but that sweater is way too cute!
Posted by: jacqueline at January 9, 2007 10:36 PM
I would love some of your snow! But the sweater looks fabulous - great job! Wish I had a snow day coming . . . Think of how much relaxing and work I could get done!
Posted by: Theresa at January 10, 2007 6:24 AM
Please feel free to keep that snow far away from me. 1/10/07 and we haven't had a flake yet!
The sweater looks wonderful. You were so smart to make it in a bigger size.

What a special gift, with the Norwegian connection and all!
Posted by: Zarah at January 10, 2007 6:14 PM
The baby sweater is absolutly incredible - I don't think I'd have the patience for the color work though...
Posted by: Heidi at January 10, 2007 7:33 PM
This is absolutely awesome - and I'm way impressed by how neat and even your stitches look! Beautiful!

Oh! I didn't know the story behind the Baby Dale, and now I love it even more. What a sweet gift! I don't think it will matter that it is not done yet. That is a very sweet and thoughtful gift, S!
Yes, please send snow. I wanna see a little this year!!

Ha,ha... free is better than the woman that was selling snow on Ebay last week. Hope you have a great time at the baby shower, and be sure to show off your work. It is bee-yooo-ti-ful!
