Friday Night Spinning

My Friday night spinning got off to a late start. I stopped at my mom's house on my way home from work to do a book exchange, so I didn't actually sit down to spin until about 8:00 (but I got some good books to read). I suppose the important thing is that I did sit down and spin on Friday night. I'm still working on the same blue coopworth I was working on the last time I spun anything, so I'm afraid I don't have anything fabulous to tell you about. I started a new bobbin because this is destined to be a 2-ply and we'll see what it's suited for once I get it done (if that ever happens).

This weekend was quite relaxing. I read, watched tv, baked, and even sewed (I know, shocking). Since I don't think I'll have a lot of knitting content this week, I'll share everything with you in the next few days.

On a side note, does anyone have a good newsboy hat pattern? I absolutely love this one (scroll down a bit), but I don't know where to find that pattern book or something similar to it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Monday.

I spun early on Friday and enjoyed the experience once again. I had more time over the weekend, too. The blue coopworth is so bright and happy...perfect for winter spinning.

the spinning looks great - such a bright, happy color!

the only newsboy cap pattern I've seen was in one of the SnB books - maybe you could alter it?

Nice spinning - I love the color.

On the newsboy cap route, I can try to look for that book at my local Japanese bookstore. I'll let you know if I spot it! :)

Nice looking spinning, grrlfriend.

Ooh that is a cute hat. Sadly though I don't know where to find a pattern for one like it.

Mmmm...that blue is delicious. The only newsboy hat I remember is from S'n'B Nation.

There's a cabled newsboy hat in Stitch N Bitch Nation. Seen here...
http://www.bust.com/knithappens/snb_nation.shtml (scroll through the pictures). Several people on the craftster.org boards have posted pictures of finished hats with and without modifications.

I'd like to know what books you and your mom exchanged. Anything you'd recommend??

That hat is really really nice. I don't think this one is as nice, and you've probably seen it before, but there's Topi from Knitty

I love that color! It looks like you're getting pretty darn good with the spinning.

And... ummm... no looking for other hat patterns! You already have a hat to work on, Missy!

The SnB Nation newsboy is cute. If I could pull off one of those hats I would make one.

I seem to recall a Penny Straker pattern that looked something like the Newsboy cap...let me check. I'll send it to you if it's the right one.

Your spinning is looking fantastic! I did a bunch of baking this weekend too. The weather was just one to promote running the oven all day I think, LOL!

Stitch Diva studios has a Page Boy hat - might be up your alley?

I've seen this newsboy cap knit up and it is super cute. It's from a local store here in Portland called Knit Purl.

Pretty spinning! It's a great color, and it looks so soft -- almost mohair-y.

I can not wait to this coming Friday because I'm determined to actually finish my bobbin of Coopworth. Then I need to knit up what skeins of yarn I have done on the MIL shawl so maybe I can start on some other spinning, although I'm sure I need more of this stuff. I'm doing a smaller spinning project next time.

Love the blue coopworth though, it's a really pretty blue.

I'll keep my eyes open for a newsboy pattern.

congrats on doing some spinning- the color is so pretty, like twilight! i am sorry i do not know any better newsboy patterns than what has been suggested already- but what a cute blog that girl has!

The link from Lori about Berroco for "KAP" is a good one. The pattern has an error in Row 2. (Just reverse the pattern of Row 1.)
I used the yarn called for and it turned out very well. I added an I-cord band to give the hatband edge some substance. That worked really well. This is a very fast knit.

I could check with my lys if they have another copy of that book. Will let you know.

I know you are looking for a newsboy and I LOVE the one in The Knitters Bible book of accessories. I have made it twice. Once straight and once with modifications and it is great.
