Weirdness
Chrisine so kindly thought I should share 6 weird things about myself and so she tagged me with a meme. Here are the rules:
Each player of this game starts with the ‘6 weird things about you.' People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged' in their comments and tell them to read your blog.
Here are my 6 weird things:
1. I believe I am allergic to paraben. This is a recent revelation and using products without paraben has seemed to help my skin (and problem skin has been a life-long battle for me).
2. I don't drink coffee. At all. Ever. I don't like it. But I do like kahlua. Go figure. In the interest of full disclosure, I did have a small peppermint mocha from Starbucks today, but I only had a half a shot of espresso. It tasted more like dark hot chocolate than coffee.
3. I like to be home by myself. I love it when Travis ropes on Friday nights because I get to eat whatever I want for dinner and watch television and knit. Just me and Riley.
4. I hate sorting the mail. I will let it pile up for a week before I throw the junk away and sort the bills. But, I clean my desk at work off every single night and put everything away. Nothing is allowed to pile up in my office. Even I find that weird.
5. I love clothes and make-up, but I still consider myself a tom boy.
6. Kids aren't really my thing. I don't want to have kids, but kids love me. If I'm in a room with a bunch of people the little kids will seek me out and talk to me. Do kids sense fear?
Ok, that's it for me. I'm going to tag Yahaira, Angela, Jenn, Rebekah, and anyone else who wants to play.
Comments
Maybe kids can be like cats that way. :)

I remember about the coffee. Very weird.

I'm sure kids do sense fear so be very careful! :) I like coffee only when it is doctored up with sweetner and cream and whip cream and all the other stuff. But I'd take a nice cup of hot tea any day.

Kids weren't my thing either--but having my own changed that. (Granted, I've always wanted a family, because I love my brothers and parents so much.) It took me until my 3rd to finally figure out what I was really doing--and to really learn to love babies and small children. I was always pretty aloof from other people's babies, while the other girls my age were all fighting over who got to hold the little tykes. Even baby-sitting, I stayed detached (but still took really good care of my charges).
Children are like incredibly talented barbarians, almost Mogli-style, if you will. They earnestly want to learn how to do what we do, and to learn how to live as a part of adult life. (Usually that's totally squashed out of them by age 6 or 7 at school, but it's always there in infancy and early childhood--it's what fuels learning to walk, talk, drink from a cup, etc.) It's amazing to me how my 15 mo dd functions in the social system of our family, jabbering away and using incredibly articulate body language; functioning socially almost as well as the 3 year old.
Just treat the kids that seek you out the same as you would an adult--answer their questions and just be yourself. That's all they really want. ;o)
Great meme . . . you're not as weird as I am. lol

Ha ha ha - I hate sorting the mail too. It doesn't make any sense, it's not like it's hard or anything, but there it is.

Isn't it fun to find out the peculiarities of others.
Thanks for tagging me, but...I just did this meme on Friday.

I'm a kid magnet also....funny, kids and dogs do the same thing. When my mother in law comes over (not a dog lover) they all flock to her...kids do that to me...

nice meme - and you know, you don't really seem all that weird to me either. ;-)

I bring my mail into the house and sort it in front of the fireplace. All junk mail goes right in the fireplace without being opened. Makes it sooo easy.
And yes children are like dogs who gravitate to non dog people and cats who end up on the lap of the only person in the room who is allergic to them. One of the mysteries in the universe.

i'm not really keen on other people's children :) until i met my friend's baby and she's just the cutest thing ever. now i'm going to have my own! if it hadn't been for my friend, i probably wouldn't be pregnant for a few more years.
as soon as you mentioned paraben, i had to see if it was in everything that i owned which it mainly is except for the natural/vegan products i use. interesting.

I have the same secret love of evenings home alone. My DH is in the Navy, and on his ship the officers have to spend every 6th night on board for "duty." It's great, eating whatever I want for dinner, getting chick flicks from Netflix, getting to take up the ENTIRE bed, and spending the evening with my knitting and (ironically enough) my corgi Riley.

I actually like other people's children, though right now I don't think I want any of my own.
I have to clean off my desk every day at work too. It just bothers me if I come back to a mess!

#3, 4, 5, 6.............that's me.....kindred spirits, I guess.
Thanks for being so obedient!

I think that no matter how great your family and relationships are, you always need some solitary time.
I've been obsessed with this website I found that lists ingredients for cosmetics and similar products, then rates them on their safety level. Perhaps it can help you avoid paraben.

I think the kids go for you because of the tom boy in you.. they like real people. Hope you can get a handle on the paraben and finally enjoy problem-free skin. Enjoying being alone is a sign of security, just sayin'

Don't you know not to tag someone with a meme right before they leave for vacation!?!? hrmmph! Remind me and I'll answer it when I get back.
XOXO
Have a very Merry Christmas!!!

I don't consider it weird to enjoy being home alone. I consider it paradise. (I got my turn last night. Hey, it only comes once a year or so, and I did enjoy the crap out of it.)
I also don't think it's weird not to want kids. I have 3 and I love them but I also respect people who don't go that route. (What's it like to have free time and privacy and disposable income and nice furniture?) I think that people who HAVE kids can't envision existing without them, and I'm certainly in that group. But before I had them, I'd say my life was very nice and complete, thank you.
Not drinking coffee? Yeah, that's a little weird. :-)
