One Down, One To Go

The first Spey Valley sock is finished except for the weaving of ends. I'm quite pleased with how stretchy it is and I just love the toe (maybe the round toe - I'll have to look that up to be sure).

I actually finished this sock before I started Fetching, and snuck Fetching in between the first and second sock - a little variety is a good thing. Travis and I are driving to Oklahoma City over the weekend (we're leaving Saturday and coming back late Tuesday) for a team roping. Travis is roping, I am not. I am knitting. So, I have a whole lot of driving time which equates to a whole lot of knitting time. Travis' team roping partner and his girlfriend (the partner's, not Travis' - obviously) are going with us, so chances are good I won't have to drive. I do believe I'll have time to finish the second Spey Valley sock, and I need to decide what to do next. If I don't get the Kimono Sweater seamed before I go, I'm taking it! I have had it with my procrastination on this project. It's a really cute sweater that I know I would wear a lot (I really wanted to wear it today, but I can't because it isn't freaking done yet), but what the hell is my problem? I don't even mind seaming. I've reached the point of being really annoyed with myself on this project, so I'm going to finish the Kimono Sweater before I start something else (and maybe even before I finish the second Spey Valley sock). I think the second travel knitting project should be socks - for a couple of reasons. First, I have a whole lot of sock yarn I'm anxious to knit and second, socks are so small and portable and I doubt I'll have a whole lot of room in the truck for a lot of yarn (like Butterfly would require - although now that I think about it maybe I should take Butterfly. Hmmm...). We will have the horse trailer with that very large front tack room. I could put a whole lot of yarn in there. Ok, realistically, I'll have 4 days of knitting time - most of which will be done around lots of people (and I suppose I'll be expected to participate in a conversation every now and then), so socks make the most sense. The ultimate question - if I'm taking sock yarn, should I take the yarn for the knee highs or for the Jaywalkers?

well that's a lot of decisions. 4 days of knitting, knitting around people. I'd say take the knee highs. Mostly because they are cute.

Butterfly would be fun because you'd get a lot of pepole ooohhing and ahhhing about it, but your right probably not the most practical travel project.

Have a great trip!

Hmmm...get that sweater done! I am actually wearing mine today!
Oh socks are great travellers...but I am getting tired of socks....
What about Jaywalking knee highs!?

Fetching looks great! I love that slightly vareigated yarn. I would vote for knee highs - they'll last you longer. Plus they'll make you super cool. =)

bring both! sock yarn is small enough to fit both in. i always worry that if i take just one project and something makes it so i can't knit it any more that i'll be stuck with nothing to knit.

the real reason though is that i get fidgety and it lets me change between the 2 projects ;)

It is so fun to listen to a knitter prepare for a trip. What is on the "To Do" list? 1. Feed, hay, tack, 2. Clothes washed and packed, or 3. What portable project do I have ready and what do I have in reserve just in case I finish the first. Do I have time to swatch? Will I have the right needles with me?????? Lived this last week as we got DD, horse and trailer ready to go to state fair competition. LOL

Too bad you don't have an RV to travel in then you could take it all! Take both socks in case you get bored with one or the other. Picking the project for travelling is always a difficult decision.

Finish the sweater. That Spey Valley sock looks suspiciously like the pattern Nancy did for SOAR last year...not exactly, but close. Enjoy Oke City..we were there two years ago and went through the Memorial, which was extremely moving. Also had dinner at a place called Sleepy Hollow...good fried chicken!

I'd take both! Sock yarn doesn't take that much room.

knee socks! i'm loving all the knee socks i've been seeing online lately :) sounds like a busy weekend you have coming up!

whoa, love that sock! I'm glad to hear that it is stretchy. I was wondering about that. I think you should definitely bring another pair of socks to knit on and hopefully you'll get the sweater seamed before you go.

Wow, you are so fast! I think socks would be best if you actually have to talk to people. I have socks on the needles...would you like to bring those? =) I'm just kidding.

Knee highs! Knee highs! Knee highs!

knee highs.

Take yarn for both socks! Leave the sweater at home if you're going to be walking around a lot, and it sounds like you are. I really like OK. Have fun!
