Not Just Another Monday

I woke up this morning sad and less excited about work than usual. I'm sure a lot of you feel the same way today. I can't believe 5 years have passed already. Time really does march on.

This weekend was busy, as all weekends are, and less was accomplished than I had hoped. Saturday, Travis and I went horse trailer shopping. Good times. Let me tell you. We were "just looking," but it still took all day. And my dear husband has yet to see the trailer he wants. So, looking will continue. I realized Saturday evening that the baby shower is next Saturday - 1 week. And I haven't started the baby knits. Crap. So, I put the Sundara sweater aside for a little bit and started the hat.

I couldn't find a great color (I wanted a dark blue - navy or indigo because the yarn I got for the sweater is a nice lightish blue (not exactly baby blue, but lighter than royal blue), but of couse I couldn't find anything like that, so I had to go with ivory. I hope it will be ok.

Yesterday Riley and I went to our first FlyBall practice. Riley had a great time and they thought he was a natural. I think we'll be doing that on Sunday afternoons - good exercise for Riley and something to keep him entertained. When we got home from practice Travis was there with a load of hay. So, I helped him unload a lot of really heavy hay bales (We're talking somewhere around 135 bales that each weighed about 80 pounds). Luckily I got to play with the hay hooks.

I just threw the bales off the end of the trailer for Travis (which involved way to much packing bales for my arms to be pleased this morning). He had to carry them into the barn and stack them, but he's good at that kind of stuff. Look at this hay stack.

If you look really carefully at the top right of the picture, you can see Isabelle hanging out in her new cat condo. She's quite pleased with it and decided we didn't mess up the barn too much (she rules that place with an iron fist).

I hope to finish the baby hat today and start the sweater tomorrow. I'd better get crackin' because I'm sure even a baby sweater takes a few days to knit. I really hope the knitting gods are feeling generous this week.

I think throwing the hay off the back of a truck sounds like a great workout! I'm glad Isabelle approved all of the hard work in her domain. I am remember 5 years later today as well! We keep moving forward though.

Flyball is a blast! A great energy outlet for Riley!

Ugh - I so remember hay season - filling the barn loft by chucking the bales (actually heaving them with all my might up to my shoulder and over) - then coming home covered head to toe (and some other non-mentionable places) with hay! Fun times! :)

i try not to remember what 5 years ago today was like. it was possibly the scariest day of my life. but that's new york.. and that's what it's like living here.

i love it when you share details about the rural life :) i have no concept of how it must be to own a horse or have that much land. it's nice to see it all from your point of view!

My competition dog does flyball and it's her all-time favorite thing. Be careful, it's addicting. :)

I was driving to work this morning and at the moment I was driving by the corner I was driving by that fateful day, my heard just fell. I can't believe it's been 5 years ago, and yet it seems like an eternity has passed.

I just hope today is uneventful.

Cute hat, I'm sure you can get the baby sweater done, your a fast knitter, and dedicated.

ooh...horse trailers...I have to say I have looked at a lot of trailers and without a doubt I would go with a Hawk. A close second is Trailet. I think I will finally be buying my trailer next year, I've put it off as long as I can.

Ah, Flyball...............I'd love to see pictures of Riley doing that. We tried to get Bella to do flyball, but she would never give the ball up once she got it.........there was a lot of growling in the back of her throat, behind the ball! Good times.

Good luck with the baby knits! Go, go, go!

I had CBS on in the car today and found it every bit as difficult to listen to the 5th Anniversary services as I did the first. Nothing can compare to turning on the TV in 2001 just as the second plane hit...that is burned in my brain forever. I have yet to drive over the Tappan Zee Bridge without imagining that first plane tracking right down the Hudson River, either! Life will never be the same.

I'm soooo glad I didn't get roped into helping with hay on tis trip. Dad has been baleing and putting up silage the entire time. I've hardly seen him. But I am sooo glad I'm not doing farm work. I did mow the lawn for him though! :-)

The baby knit is going to go quick.. trust me :) And, wow, that is alot of hay! I am glad the kitties like it.. rules with an iron fist! I can only imagine how a cat would take control of all those barn mice! And, how did working at the store go last Saturday?!

Aah, don't you feel ready for fall with all that hay neatly stacked in the barn! I'm always happy to do the pushing off and let Glenn make the nice, neat stacks around here...

Ack! Those hay hooks remind me of my all-time most irrational fear - rear-ending a pick-up truck with one of those long hay spikes on the back. That's just an episode of ER waiting to happen.
