Looking Good

The baby sweater is on the blocking board. This was indeed a quick knit.

I'm a little concerned about the proportion of this thing. The sleeves seem way too big - they're wide! We know that I don't anything about babies, but it doesn't seem right to me. Look at the sleeves compared to the body of the sweater. What do you think?

So, now that the baby knits are done (I'll seam the sweater tonight), I'm back to knitting the Kimono Sweater. I really need to dedicate some time to that project because it needs to be done in a couple of days. Jeeze - time just flies.

And, for Eye Candy Friday I have another sunset picture. The fires in Montana are making the sky smokey and hazy, but it makes for good sunrises and sunsets.

Have a great weekend.

WOW! You blew through that baby sweater. Nice work. Smoke does make for great pictures and you captured a beauty!

The sleeves do look really big. But they may be allowing for ease of movement and put the garment on and off. If the sleeves are too tight or small on a shirt, it is really hard to wrestle them into it. Trust me on that one. So wait til its together. it is probably fine.

ooooh! very pretty skies!

and i have to say that on kyoto (still working on it!) i thought that the sleeves look huge too but they looked normal once they were sewn in. and britt is probably right. they are probably big for ease of movement. i bet it'll look really cute when it's all done!

I wouldn't worry too much about the sleeves until you seam them. You can always take a slightly bigger seam allowance if you need to.
Gorgeous sunset photo.
Have a great weekend!

I know nothing of these "babies" you speak of, but I think after seaming it'll be fine. You probably want it roomy since "babies" aren't dolls. :)

btw I love the color! I think we picked a winner!

Don't worry about the sleeves...worry about keeping the neck nice and loose! You need all that room to get squirming arms into the thing...can't wait to see it seamed!

Great sky pic - eerie and beautiful =)

The baby sweater looks good so far! I'm interested to see how the sleeve to body ratio works out.

What a beautiful sunset! Too bad it took a wildfire to make it so pretty. Is it smoky near your house?

I wouldn't worry too much about the sleeves. That's what's great about babies, they grow! :) The sunset picture is stunning. Stay out of the smoke!

Don't worry about the sleeves, every baby sweater I've made, has had sleeves like that. I think it's because baby's tend to have chunky arms, and ease of putting them on for the mom, etc.

It'll look and fit great, I'm sure.

What an awesome picture.

So that's where our smokey skies went: they're staying up north! :)

I can't wait to see the sweater.

That picture is amazing. I am amazed at how quickly you made that sweater.

beautiful sunset! simply beautiful!!!
on the sleeves- i think they will be ok. the wideness is probably so the baby can move freely, and also to allow for the baby to wear a thin long sleeve t shirt underneath as a layer so that the mommy does not have to wash such a pretty handknit as often. plus, many baby clothes you can roll up sleeves and legs until the limbs grow in. i am sure it will be fine.

Oh man, I can almost smell that sunset..........

Hi Stephanie-- gorgeous sky! I needed that :) As for the baby sweater, some patterns do have really big sleeves. The baby bolero for instance had 7-9" wide sleeves for a newborn size. As long as they fit in the armhole you are good to go. I'm not sure what pattern you are making, but its looking good! -Dani

holy smoke! this is very biblical here- fire and smoke.

bigger=nonbinding which is good for babies :o)

Great picture!

the sweater will most likely be perfect! beside, babies don't mind if they have rolled up cuffs - and then the Mom is thanking you for years, because your gorgeous creation still fits :-) remember they mostly grow in length faster than width.
what an amazing sky photo.

Babies sleeves are always wider, it gives them room to move around. Just wait and see until after you sew it up and see how it looks. Your sunset looked gorgeous too.

I always find it astounding that volcanic eruptions in the Phillippines change my sky in San Diego. It's an incredible world, isn't it? Love the baby knits, btw.

I'm knitting a baby sweater with sleeves that make the body look small -- it's typical of newborn to 3T. Disproportionately long, chunky arms that like to flap around a lot, plus it REALLY helps if Mom can fit her arm up into the sleeve to pull baby's hand down through the cuff.
