This Much Baking Will Make You Fat

Besides washing the fleece this weekend, I also baked a lot. I'm not sure what got into me, but I was on a baking kick. Friday night I made cinnamon rolls

And I sat out at the barn and knit on the Noni bag while Travis shod some horses. Our horses were less than enthused with the company

Saturday I made oatmeal raisin cookies (but forgot to take pictures - sorry, but they look just like oatmeal raisin cookies). Monday I got a new cookbook (thanks, Bakerina, for the suggestion - it's a great cookbook!) and Tuesday morning made scones.

Bakerina made scones for us in Estes Park and I have to tell you that they were by far the best scones I've ever had. She recommended this cookbook and while the scones I made weren't as good as her's, they were the best I've ever made. There may be hope for me yet.

And finally, on Tuesday I made an apple pie.

Because really, what's the 4th of July without apple pie? This was the best applie pie I've ever made too. This cookbook is already my favorite and I've only had it a couple of days.

Let's see, what else... Oh, I worked on Butterfly. I finished the first repeat on chart B (but I only have about 8 inches total)! I'll take a picture this week after I get a bit more done.

And spinning! Look at my finished yarn

I'm really happy with this skein. Most of it is 3-ply, but I ran out of the red towards the end and finished up with the remaining two singles. There is still room for lots of improvement, but I really think I'm getting better. The singles were much more even and the yarn seems to be quite usable.

Oh my...those baked goods look amazing!! Especially the cinnamon rolls, mmmmm, the picture is making me drool. I might have to look into that cookbook (you know, for the two times a year that I bake). And your yarn is beautiful!!! Your spinning skills have progressed so quickly.

The yarn looks great. I'm trying not to drool on my keyboard with all the good baking you did!

Posted by: yahaira at July 6, 2006 10:19 AM

Oh my gosh I am so hungry now! Everything looks so yummy, including your yarn.

Posted by: Kaitie Tee at July 6, 2006 10:30 AM

There should be some rule against posting pictures of cinnamon rolls & scones so early in the morning. My mouth is watering!

Your yarn looks awesome too - have you tried knitting a swatch of it yet? If so, I'd love to see a picture.

Posted by: Cyndi at July 6, 2006 10:32 AM

I think I just gained 5 pounds reading your post. Everything looks fabulous!

Posted by: Carole at July 6, 2006 10:39 AM

Good geez, you're making me hungry and it's not even 10am yet. Thanks a lot! ;) Great looking yarn btw!

I think you should put a little warning at top before showing us those yummy foods. I haven't eaten yet and I'm starving now. Okay not starving but you know what I mean. Those cinnamon rolls look so so sinful! The yarn is beautiful - very nice job!

Oh yum yum, everything- including the yarn!

Posted by: Jennifer at July 6, 2006 10:54 AM

Yum, your cinnamon rolls look just like my mom and grandma make! I am drooling. Your pink and red yarn is beautiful, too. What do you think you'll make with it?

Posted by: Zarah at July 6, 2006 11:01 AM

Busy little knitter/spinner/baker, now, aren't we? All I can say is WOW to all of the above. After that torture (cinnamon buns! SCONES! pie!) I'm not sure you're one of my favorite people at the moment. Do you know how hard I've been trying to lose ten pounds? Do you know the last time I've had gooey, sticky, sugary carbs like that? But, seriously, your yarn is magnificent! THREE PLY...way to go! You are officially no longer a beginner!

Posted by: Marcia at July 6, 2006 11:04 AM

Yummy, yummy, YUM!

Posted by: jillian at July 6, 2006 11:41 AM

That yarn is amazing - what a great color!

Your plying is so even, I'm jealous ;o)

The spinning looks fantastic! The rest of it? Please! I'm on a diet! ;-)

Posted by: Cara at July 6, 2006 12:10 PM

So, did you and Travis eat all that? If you need help, I'd be happy to volunteer.

;-)

Posted by: claudia at July 6, 2006 12:11 PM

oh my god. those cinnamon buns look OUTRAGEOUSLY good. i'm salivating over here! what recipe did you use?

your yarn is just gorgeous. i love the colors!

Posted by: gleek at July 6, 2006 12:18 PM

Well done on *all* of it, Stephanie! The baking looks scrumptious and that yarn is beautiful!

Posted by: Kristi aka Fiber Fool at July 6, 2006 12:56 PM

Sweet Spirits of Camphor! Look at all those goodies. I think the pie is absolutely beautiful, and just between us, I'll bet your scones kicked mine to the curb, simply by virtue of the rise alone. :) I'm very glad you liked the book. Many of those recipes were also in our textbook at pastry school -- albeit, scaled up to make dozens, if not hundreds, of everything -- so just think: every time you open that book, not only will you make great things, you will also save yourself thousands of dollars in tuition. :)

I am in awe of your yarn. I tried my hand at spinning for the first time at Spin Out. It has not been pretty. ;)

Posted by: Bakerina at July 6, 2006 1:07 PM

damn, you're makin mad progress on this spinning thing! the new yarn looks very impressive!

Posted by: j a r e d at July 6, 2006 1:11 PM

I think the yarn is very usable. I think it'd make a great hat - or scarf. Love the colors. Also your baking looks amazing (I experimented with oatmeal raspberry muffins this weekend)!

Posted by: Nicole at July 6, 2006 2:28 PM

OH my goodness now I'm starving after reading your post. Everything looks scrumptious.

That yarn you made too.

I love that picture of the horses in the barn.

Posted by: Rebekah at July 6, 2006 3:19 PM

Your yarn looks totally professional! When I first saw the photo, I thought it was new store-bought yarn! The baked goods look quite good too..

Posted by: Diana at July 6, 2006 3:27 PM

Golly, girl, you've been busy! I'm coming to live with you for a while................when's the next flight to Wyoming?

Posted by: Bella at July 6, 2006 3:35 PM

Baking AND spinning - you are amazingly multitalented Steph! all of the foods look so yum! and the handspun is so even and beautiful. Brava!

Posted by: Lolly at July 7, 2006 10:50 AM

I think I gained 5 pounds just reading that post. Everything looks delicious!

Your yarn looks fabulous! I know I don't know much about much - but it looks even and twisty and the color is beautiful. Is that from the fleece you just washed?

Posted by: Kathy at July 7, 2006 11:52 AM

Um, stop already. I am unworthy.

Posted by: Theresa at July 7, 2006 1:29 PM

Oh. My. GAWD. You had me at those cinnamon rolls. What recipe do you use? I haven't had a decent cinnamon roll since I last visited the States.

Okay.... Now my mouth is watering! I'm going to have to go eat some baked goods.

Posted by: Chrissy at July 9, 2006 12:03 PM
