Skirt?

I'm not at all sure where the weekend went. I had big plans, but for the life of me I can't think of what they were or what I did this weekend. I know what I didn't do though. I didn't knit on Butterfly, I didn't sew, I didn't spin (well, I did spin for about an hour, but not as much as I wanted to), and I didn't finish my laundry. I did finish knitting the Noni carpet bag.

And it is indeed huge.

With the bag completed, I'm now working on the flowers. Because every very large carpet bag also needs a couple of very large flowers.

I'm almost done with the first one - I have 2 more small petals and the bobble center. I modified the pattern a bit. The directions don't have you wrap the short row stitches, but I just couldn't handle large holes in the center of the petals. I know they're going to be felted, but I'm anal and I just couldn't stand it. So there.

I did some more baking this weekend, but I've decided to spare you all more baked goods' photos. There was Irish Soda Bread (my first attempt at it and it's quite tastey), banana bread - a low-fat recipe with applesauce that is super moist, and some caramel hazelnut bars that Travis determined were "rich and good." High praise indeed.

I can't wait to see that bag finished! I might have to join that club! I would get into so much trouble if I did that much baking. My husband doesn't like sweets in the house because he will eat them. I bake for the kids though! I was so prouductive knitting this weekend that I must have taken all the knitting time from you! Unfortunately, I am doing laundry now. Send yours down and I'll throw it in!

The bag is awesome and I love the flowers. Thank God they aren't brown.

wow, that IS a huge bag! and look at that beautiful wyoming sky. it's photos like these that give me pause about big city living :)

Isn't it how funny how big the bags are before they are felted. I swear it cracks me up, I think that's why I like knitting them. I'm hoping the yarn for my mom's bag comes today.

Love the flower! So cute. And it looks like the pattern is very clever. Also, I love how Riley is just staring at you while you're holding the unfelted bag. Such a cutie.

Holy cow that thing is huge! But those flowers look like they'll be damn cute! Don't worry. I didn't get too much done this weekend either!

Wow that's big. Thanks for giving us a "human for scale" shot :)

Good thing you didn't have pictures of the baking. I gained weight just hearing about it. The bag is SUPER huge! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Whoa, that puppy is huge! How long did it take you to knit?

Posted by: Zarah at July 10, 2006 12:12 PM

Yeah...I'm nearly done knitting a felted bag that sorta looks like a very oversized sweater.

I'm all for baking pictures, but I'll keep reading anyway. :)

Wow! I can't wait to see the final felted size of the bag. Even though I've done plenty of felting I can't every wrap my head around what it will look like when it is done, LOL!

Sounds like good baking to me!

Yeah, thanks for sparing me the baked goods photos as I embark on yet another low carb diet. The bag is incredible...oh, did you know that Fiber Washing Bag is great for felting? Just saying...

Wow, the Noni bag is indeed big. It didn't look that large until I saw you holding it. I'm impressed that you knit it so quickly! The flower is adorable!
Looks like you've been on a baking frenzy! Everything sounds yummy. I broke down and ordered the baking book you recommended.

Lovely beginnings on your Noni bag. I'm quite jealous!

Oh, boy, that bag is way huge! Thanks to you (smirk), I had to get that pattern. I ended up buying the next weekend too. It works out well as I have a ton of Cascade 220 (7 skeins) that I was going to use for a sweater, but decided against it, b/c the yarn pills so bad and I didn't want that in a garment, though I love the yarn. Figured it would be good in a felted pattern and I can use 6 of my skeins and bought 2 skeins in a contrast color (mine will have less stripes). I almost cast on for the medium-sized bag last night, b/c the rather huge bag is rather huge! But oh, well. I can't wait to see how yours turns out. I think I'm going to add the flower too, but we'll see. I'm excited to cast on for mine now, possibly tonight. Did you do the defined edge or not?

The bag is going to be so cute!

Can't wait to see the bag as a FO! I may have to investigate this Noni pattern.........where is it?

Posted by: christine at July 11, 2006 8:08 AM

That bag is like the King of Bags. I love the photo where you're holding it up and your dog is like, "Daaaaaaang, Momma. That bag is HUGE."

These Noni bags are fabu. Can't wait to see it come together, Steph!
