Ready To Felt

I finished knitting the second huge flower last night and I'm ready to felt everything. You remember the size of the bag? Here are the flowers on the bag to give you some idea of their size.

I made a couple of extra petals on the second flower - one of the largest and one of the medium size. The resulting flower is quite a bit fuller. I decided it was ok to have 2 flowers that weren't identical because how many real flowers look just like their neighbor (see, I'm really not that anal).

However, I was cutting it kind of close on yarn. This is how much I had left after I put the second flower together:

Yeah, that's it - about 2 inches! It's a good thing I didn't want matching flowers!

Today I'm knitting up a dog toy for Rebekah's charity drive (nothing like waiting until the last possible moment) and I'm going to felt everything tonight. I'm really excited, but keeping my fingers crossed just to be safe. Tomorrow I'm going to the fabric store to find some fabric for the lining and the handles should be coming in the next week or so. I'll have a finished bag before you know it. After this project I'll focus my time on Butterfly and the long-neglected Trellis.

Today promises to be hot and dry and the sky this morning is crystal clear - not a cloud in site.

Good idea to have two different flowers. It will be cool to see it finished. Our sky is cloud free but full of smoke from California! Ick!

I looooooooooooove those flowers! Even on their own they would be cool. Heck, put a safety on one and wear it as a brooch.

You know, at the Philadelphia Flower Show a ribbon is awarded for two most-look-alike flowers! It's quite spectacular to see, for example, two roses with identical petals and leaves, down to the tiniest detail! But in real life, doesn't happen so much :)

Have an awesome weekend! I can't wait to see that bag!

I love the way the flowers came out! I'll have to knit some soon.

I still can't get over how huge those things are! They're beautiful, and I do like the not the same as the other effect. It's going to be a great bag.

PS: Your skies are gorgeous!

Your bag should turn out beautifully - that hot dry weather will be perfect for drying the felt quickly so you can use your bag!

Love the bag, especially the flowers. And, the baking...and the horses, and the BIG Wyoming sky. Can you send it all to NYC?

i never get tired of seeing the pictures from your home. they are always so beautiful. look at all that sky!

That bag is just wonderful...LOVE the flowers! Our sky started out like that this morning (although our spaces aren't open enough to tell, really!) but the thunderheads are building now. Hope we don't get more tornadoes. Really. In Connecticut. So weird.

You know, those don't look that huge in that first picture until you catch the perfectly painted (and matching) toes in the bottom of the shot! *Then* you realize how ginormous that bag and flowers are! Wow!

Nice! Can't wait to see it post felting.

I can't wait for you to felt it! I love felting - it's like magic. :)

That is sure a "big sky" even though I know that's another state altogether.

I can't wait to see this felted, either. They look wonderful together!

I had quite a little giggle with myself when I saw your teeny tiny toes at the bottom of the picture. Wowza that's a big bag! I love several of those Noni patterns, so I can't wait to see how yours turns out!

Posted by: Jenn at July 14, 2006 7:59 PM

Wow, hurry up and felt that bag already! I can't wait to see it. I love your color combo and the flowers are perfect!

Posted by: Leslie at July 15, 2006 8:22 AM

Can't wait to see the finished bag! Good luck felting and choosing a lining fabric. I'm sure it will be beautiful!

Your flowers are gorgeous - where did you get the pattern from? I was looking for knitted flower patterns a while back and didn't come across anything anywhere near that.

The bag must have turned out great - looking forward to seeing it!

Posted by: Birdsong at July 17, 2006 8:29 PM

Wow - those are some big flowers, but they fit the scale of the bag. At least there won't be any yarn from the flowers to add back to the stash!
