The Amazing Lace has not been going well. The yarn I bought didn't really work out. It is gorgeous yarn - very soft and a yummy color, but the problem is that it wasn't plied. It's just a single, and as a single - it pulls apart. I was really afraid that I'd get the whole scarf knit and try to block it and the whole thing would pull apart. So, what's a girl to do but buy different yarn. After consultation with a couple of friends, I ordered some zephyr

Can someone please explain to me why I've never used this yarn before? It is great. It's so soft, the color is perfect, and the best part is that it's plied. I cast on yesterday afternoon and got just a little bit done.

I went way down in needle size. The pattern calls for a US #6 and I swatched on a #3 and a #2 (the 3.0mm version), but finally decided I like the look of the pattern knit on a 2.5mm. But, of course I'm doubting myself and wondering if it's too dense.
I had high expectations for my productivity this weekend, but I ended up being a lazy bum. I worked on Butterfly on Friday night while I watched Best in Show, but I didn't sew a single stitch or knit anything else until I restarted Trellis. Mostly I laid on the couch and read a book. The only other productive thing I did this weekend was make a cherry pie (don't look any further if you don't want to see it). I picked up some pie cherries at the farmer's market on Friday night and I'm quite happy with the way it turned out.

Cherry pie is one of my favorites. Next to blueberry. And we should have native blueberries very soon.
Love the zephyr, love Best in Show.

The Zephyr is amazing stuff - I used that for my Pacific Northwest Shawl (my Amazing Lace item) and I just love it.

I've always heard great things about Zephyr. You chose a really pretty color.
The pie looks amazing!!!

Love the color of the yarn - I have some black zephyr in stash, still trying to decide what it will become. Send some pie over here - looks divine.

Single-ply yarn? Sounds a little unusual to me. I'm glad the Zephyr is working out better for you. And the pie looks delicious!

That pie is gorgeous. I bet it must be very delicious. I love zephyr too. I started the Peacock feather shawl in teal but haven't made very much progress.

YYYUUUMMM!!! i want me some cherry pie!
i think that the scarf will open up a bit on blocking so you're probably fine with the pattern density as it stands. i've always wanted to try zephyr! it's on my to-knit-with list :)

Yum! Glad the yarn is working out!

I plan to use some Zephyr for my next shawl too, I love the look of it and I'm glad to hear that it feels nice as well. That pie picture is absolutely mouth-watering!

Groan...I just put back on two pounds LOOKING at that pie! You are too much! (Do not EVER send these food photos to my husband!) As for the lace...I have most of a cone of Zephyr that sits untouched in my yarn closet. One of these days.

ooh, pie! i'll be right over!
bad girl stephanie for posting about zephyr, though - i am trying so hard not to order any. i have the shade card and it's too beautiful.

I think it's really nice that you picked a yarn to match your pie . . . they both look beautiful.

Everything looks absolutely yummy, from the lace yarn to the pie!!!!!

mean, mean, mean, cherry pie is my absolute favorite. :-)
That is lovely yarn, the color is really beautiful. I like the denseness, but I wonder if it'll be big enough.

Best in Show is one of my favorite movies -- it's so hysterical!!!! The pie look delicious.

mmmm. cherry pie. Your lattice is gorgeous! I can never get it to look that neat. I am definitely going to have to try zephyr for my next lace project. If I ever do lace again.

Zephyr is the best lace yarn. I want one of every color. Oh and a piece of that pie, too please;-)

I've heard such wonderful things about Zephyr. What color is it? Just beautiful!

You make the most yummy looking desserts!
Glad the zephyr is working out better than your other yarn. I love the color you chose. I've got a skein of it, and am dying to knit with it, but that will have to wait a bit.

That's it - I've had it. I'm moving in. Start baking!

Cherry pie is, hands down, my absolute favorite pie. Unless I'm having it a la mode, in which case it has to be apple. But in all other cases: cherry pie.
P.S. I wish we had pies over here. Tartes are good, but they're not the same as the American thing.

Fresh farmer's market cherries - wow! That pie looks fab, Steph!
I have heard good things about Zephyr yarn, but have not tried it yet... can't wait to see more of yours ;)

Ok, your pie looks like it should be in a magazine! Cherries are one of my favorite things about summer, especially from the farmers' market. They're never as good from the store.

I don't think it looks too dense at all! It's wonderful - and thanks for the heads up on the yarn!!
Posted by: Kathy at July 25, 2006 12:23 PM
Such a beautiful color. It's going to look really nice knitted up. Really nice.

I'm making that scarf with Zephyr too ... but in a different colour. Yes, it is a wonderful wonderful yarn ... love love love it!
