Giant Flower
Lately I find myself wishing that I had as much desire and motivation for all areas of my life as I have for knitting and spinning. What is it about knitting that motivates me? Is it the act itself? Is it the finished projects? Or is it the blog that motivates me to knit so I have something to talk about? Maybe it's a combination of all of those things. But, I really wish I could translate whatever it is into work and exercise and the ever-exciting laundry and house work. Maybe recognizing that I should is half the battle, or maybe I'll just keep thinking about it and not do anything.
I finished the first flower for the Rather Huge Felted Carpet Bag

And as you might imagine - it is also rather huge. But I suppose that makes sense so it looks right on the huge felted bag. I started the second one and will hopefully be able to finish it in the next day or so. And then felt! I am excited to see how this all turns out. Then it's on to lining and pockets and handles.

Can't wait to see it finished. Oh, and nice green background.

I hear you on the motivation thing... it's the same for me. If you find some way to harness your fiber motivation and apply it to housework or exercise, let me know! :)
Oh, and cool flower!

You've got it - think about it but do nothing. The way I figure it, if you really were motivated to do all that other crap, you wouldn't have sufficient time to knit. So you see, the rest of these things would only hinder your knitting progress which would lead to resenting having a clean house and clean clothes. But you'll never resent having a lot of knitting! Knit on!

But, if you were motivated for laundry and housework the same way you are for knitting and spinning, how would you know knitting and spinning are your favorites? Having a passion for something is what distinguishes it from all the rest.
The flower looks great! I wonder what it will look like when felted.

Such a pretty flower! You need to knit a little bee and stitch it on the flower. Tee hee!

That flower is so damn cute. I need some more motivation too. I supposed us chatting during work doesn't really help the matter, does it?

It will take a leap of faith...but it's bound to be pretty!

I definitely understand the motivation thing - I have so little motivation for work (hence me reading blogs AT work - shhh!) Why can't we turn this into profit? :) I have had to work extra hard to get motivated for exercise and diet, but it still is not a passion like knitting is for me.
Great flower, and I like the grass background too!

I hear you. So many other projects sit around te house unfinished (esp. laundry) while I knit steadily.

Will you show the flower next to something for size? It has got to be enormous given the size of that bag!
And thanks for showing how you made it - I got two of the patterns and thought I was going to be making a zillion little petals and then doing a LOT of seaming to make a flower. What you did is a TON easier than what I was imagining.

Very good questions. I ponder those almost daily in my life. I see yarn and I get this feeling that I can't describe and I want to knit . . . something - I don't care what! And, it gets worse when I read the blogs and see what everybody else is doing. Yet, I keep on reading!

I love the flower, I cannot wait to see how it felts up. I'm lining up felting projects, if we get these wood floors, it's no more shoes in the house, so we'll both needed felted slippers I think.

Knitting is just your thing, woman. If you were just as passionate about housework and chores, I'd be worried ;-) The flower is a beaut. It'll be neat to see all felted up.

Wow, you have so much going on lately! I am defintely impressed by the fleece-washing adventure - congrats on a job well done. I also love to bake, so I can certainly appreciate all of your exciting baking endeavors. Good luck felting the carpet bag!
