Eye Candy Friday

Purly came up with Eye Candy Friday to help us all get through the last day of the work week.

eyecandyfriday.jpg

The point is to take pictures of things you like or think are pretty and talk about them a little bit. Not knitting, just anything.

But, before I can show you the pretty pictures I took this week (as Purly says, we can't all be Cara, but we can try), I have to show you a really disturbing picture.

Yes dear friends that is exactly what it looks like. I broke the tip on my Holz & Stein needle when I was trying to execute one of those nasty knit 7 into 5 thingies for Trellis. I cried. And I cursed. And then I tried to find a replacement. I actually did end up getting one from the wonderful lady in Germany I've ordered from before. I hope it gets here soon because I tried to work those k7tog things on my Addi Naturas last night and I swear to you I almost cried again. Just because it was so much worse.

Now that I have you all feeling sorry for me (and that was really what I was going for), here's my eye candy for the day.

The Boys. I guess I really take them for granted. They're always there. Hanging out in the pasture eating, or complaining when you lock them in the corral for the day (because they're starving, clearly). When I stop and think about it, I can't imagine my life without horses. I grew up on a ranch and there's really never been any time in my life when I didn't have unlimited access to horses. And for that, I'm very thankful.

The Kids. Isabelle and Riley - both spoiled rotten, but aren't you supposed to spoil your kids?

And finally, some pictures of the sunset the other night.

i have been reading your blog for a while but have never commented. i linked in from somewhere (?) and came back because i like your range of topics, your knitting and... my brother lives in laramie and so i get a glimpse of his world thru you.

i am also making the trellis scarf and was so amazed that you didn't gripe about those dang 7 into 5 numbers on your last post. your scarf looks great, nice choice of yarn, highlights the stitchwork, it will really pay off when you are through.

There is nothing quite like the sunsets out in the wild, open spaces! We do get good ones in the winter back here, but nothing like yours. Eye candy, indeed! Sorry about your needle...hate when that happens. I think the solution is three sets of each size....

The sunset is fabulous and so is you whole family!

you have a wonderful life, Beautiful, just beautiful

Oh, that sunset! Almost makes me forget that everything underneath it is brown. *mwah*

Posted by: Carole at July 28, 2006 10:21 AM

Great pictures!

I can't believe your needle broke. That stinks! Glad they are sending a replacement though.

Posted by: Cyndi at July 28, 2006 10:25 AM

Ooh I winced when I saw your poor needle. The brokenness of it clearly called for a stiff drink while watching a beautiful sunset.

Posted by: Kaitie Tee at July 28, 2006 10:28 AM

wow, wyoming sure is pretty. so much open space! as the cityfolk that i am, i think that i might hyperventilate if i saw that much space though. it makes you feel so small! :) beautiful, though.

sorry your needle broke! that must be really frustrating especially in the middle of a project!

Aaawww! You do good Eye Candy! Such pretty photos, I especially love the one with the horses. You are a lucky girl to live someplace so pretty. Even if it is real cold and real windy!

The kids are adorable! =)

Great pictures. I especially love the sunsets.

I love that "unlimited access to horses"... I can honestly say that my access has been very limited :) but I remember the few times I have ridden a horse very fondly!

Beautiful pictures. Awful shame about the needles though!

Your world is gorgeous, can I live there too? Horses, dogs, cats, mountains - you gotta good gig. Bummer about those needles though. Glad you can get them replaced.

Tis better to have knit with Holz and Stein and broken them than to have never knit with them at all!

Beautiful sunset, you lucky girl!

Sorry about the broken needle -- I hope the replacement arrives quickly. The sunset photos are just gorgeous! I've never actually been on a horse before.

Your scenery photos are always so beautiful - thanks for sharing them. I love the east coast, but seeing a sunset like that makes me think I need a vacation!

What wonderful pictures - especially of Riley and Isabell (what a great name!!)

Sorry about your needle....ouch

i love the sunset pictures, i don't love the broken needles ... whaaa ! that sucks!

Posted by: gray la gran at July 28, 2006 4:51 PM

I totally love the wide-open-space pictures. There just isn't anything like that around here.

Posted by: claudia at July 28, 2006 5:53 PM

my one experience with horses is from when i was very young; you could sit on a pony and have someone walk you through a little path. my dad waited in line with me for ages and when it was finally my turn i chickened out. i can't even remember it but my dad loves to tell that story ;-)

i love reading about and seeing pictures from your life, which is so very different from mine. don't you love how knitting is bringing all of us together, across the world?

Love the eye-candy pictures. wonderful! I haven't been around horses for the past 5 years, (since we had to sell my daughters) they are certainly beautiful.

and some sympathy goes out to you about your needles. happen to me as well with my ebony Lantern Moon needles. I was so sad. Somehow I thought ebony would have been stronger (?)

Hi Stephanie -

I'm knitting Trellis, too, and I've found that if I slip those 7 stitches onto a size 1 dpn, the k7togs are much more managable. It slows everything down, but no dropped stitched (or broken needles)

(I'm a friend of Cindy's.)

Beautiful sunset! Your kids are so cute! (and look like they get along - my kids would not be sitting so still next to a kitty!)

Poor needle - hopefully the new ones will be there soon!

Know how you feel about the lovely Holz & Stein's as I have a cracked one myself. I love those needles for knitting lace. The next best needles I've found are the new Knitpicks needles...but the H&S are my favorite for lace. Where did you find a replacement? I haven't had success in finding other sizes.

Posted by: Tonni at July 30, 2006 6:25 PM

Sorry to see your H&S needles in two pieces. I, too, have some of those needles and prize them. However, I had been knitting the Mystery Stole 2 on US 3 Holz & Stein circulars with Zephyr yarn and the stitches kept catching on the joins. I tried the new Knitpicks classic circulars and no more catching on the joins. They are pointy enough too. I would rush to replace my H & S's if they broke just like you but you may want to consider giving the Knitpicks circs a try on Trellis. They aren't very expensive and you wouldn't have to worry about them snapping in two while doing a k7tog ... I got mine in less than a week.
BTW Trellis is looking pretty.... Sue

Arrgghh - 7 into a5 - 7 into 5!!! Damn Trellis!! Start #3 for me, this time with my new KnitPicks needles. Sharper than the old plastic ones, way slippier, too. Aaarrrggghhh. It's going to be the death of me!

Posted by: Theresa at July 30, 2006 8:31 PM

One of my friends has been putting the 7 you have to knit together onto a needle a couple sizes smaller (like you would if you were cabling with a cable needle) and knitting them together that way... Worth a try, no?! At least until your replacement arrives...

These are great pictures. The sky shots are wonderful, but I have to admit that my favorite is the one with Isabelle and Riley. That cute little doggie tongue wagging out makes me smile!

Playing catch-up and had to comment on the awesome sunset photos. The animals are a joy too, and I so want a Corgi around here but DH insists its unnatural to have such short legs on a roly-poly dog (sigh, still looking for the proper replacement to a Jack Russell Terror, which won't be another JRT, but something less interested in escape!).
