Pile O' Fiber
Now that life is starting to settle down a bit (although I very well may have just jinxed myself with that statement), I'm ready to dedicate some serious time and effort to bettering my spinning abilities. I haven't done too bad so far, but I bought a whole mess of fiber from Spunky Eclectic and the colors are enough to motivate anyone.

I got 14 colors, 1 ounce of each color and they represent 4 ounces of wool blend, 3 ounces of Corriedale, 3 ounces of Merino, and 4 ounces of BFL. I think spinning with some color will be a lot of fun and I'm excited to try some different types of wool.
I enrolled in a 2-day spinning class at Estes Park this year and I think it should be very educational. In looking at the material list, the one thing I need that I don't have is a set of hand carders. Anyone have a suggestion for a good brand? Because I'm clueless. And what's the deal with woolie winders? A must? Something I can live without?
Still no word from my Sockapaloooza sock recipient. I'm sure she's received the package and since she hasn't posted or e-mailed, I'm betting the socks don't fit or she doesn't like them. Either way - not good. My pal said she was mailing my socks out on Monday, so I'm going to start stalking the mailbox until they come.

After all the work you put into those sock pal socks... I hope your sock pal lets you know about them soon! perhaps she is out of town :-)

The colors of the fiber are awesome! I think it's more fun to spin with cool colors than with white or brown. I did try a Woolee Winder with a Schacht wheel in my spinning class, and I thought it was *way* cool. It distributes the yarn evenly for you on the bobbin (instead of manually doing it yourself by moving the clip thingy). I don't know if it's a "must have," though, especially as they are not cheap.

Maybe your sock recipient is out of town? I'm hoping that she doesn't have them yet, because regardless of whether she likes them or not, she should at least say thank you.
Enjoy all your new fiber!

Your class is with Maggie Casey, yes? You probably don't *need* to have the hand cards. I think that was on the list for the second level spinning class I took with her and it wasn't essential. That said, I've used the Ashford carders with the finer cloth and they work well.
I hope your pal has just been really busy or her camera broke or something. It would be heartbreaking if the socks didn't fit or she didn't like them...

Keep your spirits up about your sock recipient! You never know what could be delaying her post or email. Sometimes life gets in the way of knitting, right?

Pretty colors! I'm hoping your sockpal is just tied up - I'm sure she likes what you did - how could you not? I'm no hand card expert, but I bought the Howard cards from Webs, and they've been working well for me.

Yeah, she must be out of town. Either that or crazy.

I'm relatively handcard challenged, but I would highly recommend Howard Handcards, made out here in Rhode Island. Woodland Woolworks is now carrying them. I got small ones initially, but am going to get bigger, finer ones now that I am finally starting to "get" it. I much prefer combing...Forsyth Mini Combs are the way to go there. You can use a dog brush or comb, too, so stick those in your bag.
As for WooLee Winder, they are great, just NOT on the Lendrum! After two years of struggle with mine (even Judith couldn't get it working right) I returned it to Nathan this past weekend in exchange for more bobbins for the Kromksi WooLee Winder, which is heavenly. They just don't work right for most Lendrums!

Man, that pile-o-fiber is enough to make me want to take up spinning! must... resist... :)
I'm not sure what is up with the non-responsive sock pals. Seems like many people are having the same experience. Hopefully your mailbox stalking days will be over soon, and you will have a pretty new pair of socks to wear.

I want to jump into that pile of fabric!
I hope your pal writes to you soon!

That roving looks good enough to eat!!! The colours are unbelievable...makes me want to take up spinning too!! There's NO WAY your sock pal doesn't like the socks you sent. They were perfect. She must be out of town or maybe something's gotten in the way of her blogging.

That fiber is great, the array of colors has got to be encouraging. a 2 day spinning class sounds like a lot of fun, I can't wait to hear about it after you've taken it.
Sorry about the socks, I can't imagine that anyone could dislike those socks, maybe she's just been really busy or had some personal crisis and hasn't been able to post or e-mail. Can't wait to see the socks you receive!

I am quite sure that your sock pal will be thrilled when she gets her socks! Not to worry......probably just a post office snafu.

Oh, what amazing colors, I would love to touch all these fibers and jump right into them!
So sorry to hear that you aven't received word from your sock pal yet - but perhaps she's really out of town or very busy, I'm sure you're going to hear from her soon - hopefully!

Those colors are amazing - do you have plans for what you're spinning with that? Do you buy the fleece with an end project in mind, or just for the fun of the spinning?
