Generosity

When I talk about my blog friends to my family, I get strange looks. They don't really understand how I can be friends with people I've never actually met (in person, but they don't see the difference - and the blog, well that's a whole 'nother post). But, my blog friends are some of the most wonderful, generous people I know. You're always there when I'm feeling down or a project isn't going well. And you're the first ones to be happy for me when something's going right. And you get me. You get my obsession with knitting and what is fast becoming an obsession with spinning, and you don't think I'm at all odd. A girl just can't ask for better friends. Look what came in the mail from Caitlyn

She bought it at The Knit and Crochet Show. Just because she thought I would like it. And honestly, what's not to like? It is just the most gorgeous purple color and oh so soft. I can't spin it yet though. Because I'll muck it up. But maybe after Estes Park, maybe then I can spin it without making it a total mess. And there's more. Cyndi (go check out Cyndi's new site - it's lovely) had a book plate signed for me by Nancie Wiseman (the picture didn't turn out, but it's very cool). I was feeling really sorry for myself because they got to go on such a fun trip and I didn't get to go, but they thought of me while they were there, which makes it almost as good as being there.

I'm still working on Clapotis and have just started the decrease section. I hope that means I'll be done before too long - I should be since the rows are getting shorter, but you never know about these things.

I'm also planning a new project to celebrate May's Project Spectrum, so stay tuned for details.

That fiber is beautiful! And I know what you mean about blog friends. I just told someone, oh, I'm going out to Utah and Colorado to spend 5 days with friends. When I said they were friends I'd never met - well, you should have seen the look I got!

The end of Clapotis is definitely near now... don't you just love decreasing? It makes the knitting go by so much more quickly when you have to decrease on both edges of every right side row.

The fiber that Caitlyn sent you is gorgeous. I'm confident that you'll be able to spin it into beautiful yarn soon!

The clapper is looking great!

I have the same problem with people not getting the whole blog thing. My husband thinks my blog is weird too. Oh well!

That purple is beautiful. I have never been a purple person until recently. Funny.

I wish I were going to Estes Park so I could meet you. Maybe next year...

I don't have a blog, but when I mention things I have read on others' blogs I get funny looks, too.

gorgeous stuff!! i agree with you, knitblogger friends are the best!

Your clapotis looks great! I'm in the midst of the straight sections, but admittedly have not been working on it tons. I hope to get a good chunk done in the car ride down to MD! The wool/silk is so pretty!

Your Clapotis looks great! The decrase section goes by much, much faster than the straight section, so you'll be done in no time. I'm not ready to try spinning silk yet either, but it's something to aim for!

Aren't blogfriends great? That purple is just about perfect.

Your Clapotis is gorgeous, too. :)

i love the color of your clapotis!! i'm wondering if you've remembered to drop the stitches through the straight rows? it looks like a lot of stockinette and not enough drops. but perhaps you are saving it all for later? :) anyway, it's a fabulous colorway.

OH that's absolutely beautiful, the roving. You'll spin it up into some beautiful yarn, I'm sure of it.

Clapotis looks great too.

pretty fiber!! love the shine
I'm about to start a clapotis myself, I'm about to go on a 2 day roadtrip so I need to bring something other than socks to keep me entertained (I need variety or I'll get sick of socks!) the clapotis is looking great!

I really like how that yarn on clappy is pooling, what yarn is it?

Posted by: pixie at May 3, 2006 10:41 AM

Yarn is dyed! Yay for May's Project Spectrum project. Heh heh, since I know what it is :)

New project? I'm so tuned in. I love new projects. I need a new project (um, add, "like I need a hole in my head" to add).

I love the clapotis. It's on my list but I am trying to get some other stuff done before I start it. I know exactly what you mean about blog friends it cannot be explained to those who don't blog.

I so hear you. I've made some fabulous friends through my blog! And when I've met some in person it was like we already knew each other. Viva les blog friends!

I don't have a blog myself, but I have been reading them and commenting for over three years now. I absolutely love them, and they have made me grow in my knitting in ways I could have never grown without them. I find that even most of my knitting friends from my LYS don't even understand the blog thing, though. I stopped mentioning what I have been reading on the blogs at my LYS because I always got teased a bit and some women even rolled their eyes at me. Now, I just smile to myself knowing that they are the ones missing out since I have learned so much from these wonderful blogs. I thank all of you wonderful women and men who so generously contribute so much of your time and effort to put yourself and your craft out there for so many people's benefit.

Your Clapotis is wonderful - I have the yarn for one that I've never started because I know I'm shy of the yardage called for. Would it be hard to shorten the pattern a bit and would you do it in the middle given the way it's made? (Seemed like it when I looked at the pattern.) Either way - yours looks wonderful.

And that fiber is gorgeous... I am a sucker for blues and purples like that. You are a lucky girl!

Wow, that merino/silk is beautiful! And the Clapotis, too...yep, you're nearing the home stretch--keep it up!

I tried to explain my blog to a friend from our motorcycle group, and she, too, just didn't get it. You mean you've never met these people, and they helped you make a blanket for your brother, and then someone else's brother, both of whom you've never met? What a concept........

Lovely Clapotis...........yeah, you're in the home stretch!
