Weekend Time Warp
Weekends are a mystery to me. I go into Friday with good intentions and grand plans and am always slightly disappointed on Sunday night. There are always so many things to get done and for some reason I never get even a fraction of them accomplished. My mom came out Friday night and helped me pin the hem on my skirt, but I didn't touch it for the rest of the weekend, which is ridiculous because it's so close to being done and I actually like it and would like to wear it to work. Then there's the other skirt I'd like to make before the 20th. I have the fabric and the pattern and was going to cut it out, but didn't even look at it.
Saturday was the knitting guild meeting, which was fun and I got some quality time knitting on Clapotis. I took Chalet too, but thought talking and following the charts was a bit much for my feeble Saturday morning mind. Then there was the time sucker of all time suckers - the hair appointment. You'd think that when you get the same color every time and are letting your hair grow that you could be in and out in an hour and a half, but no. Three plus hours later I finally stepped out of the salon, a lot poorer and pretty annoyed. I'm going to have to reevaluate that situation at some point in the near future. My mom and I went to Ft. Collins to the fabric store in search of fabric for living room pillows. We found some great stuff and my mom's already made 3 of her 4 pillows. There's a lady who knows how to make the most of her time. Clearly, I have not inherited this skill. Besides the fabric I got for those future couch pillows, I got a chair cushion and am going to paint the chair in my "craft room" red and use the leftover roller shade fabric (the black paisley with the red and cream) to make a cushion for it . Do you think that will count for Project Spectrum?
Yesterday, well I'm not sure what happened to yesterday. Yesterday morning I re-swatched for Butterfly

And got gauge! I didn't do the whole pattern repeat like the previous two attempts, but did 8 of the 16 rows and I think it was enough to accurately measure gauge (at least I hope so). The successful needles are the 3.75mm Holz & Stein - 2 sizes up from the recommended needle size. Having to go up 2 needles sizes is unusual for me, but I guess I had to do the same thing on the Nordic Mittens. Must be the whole stranded knitting thing. High on my success, I cast on the 268 stitches and started the bottom. The second row requires you to purl. Can I just tell you that it took me a bit to figure out purling with my right hand while stranding the colors behind. I can't tell you how many times I purled 2 with my right hand, purled 2 with my left hand and then realized I'd forgotten to move the right hand yarn to the back before starting the left hand color. Jeeze. And it takes me forever. I was tired after 2 rounds, so I put it aside. But, I've officially started, and I'm so very happy about that.
The only other thing I can figure out that I did yesterday (besides the ever present laundry) was get all my stuff settled in this

Namaste Jetsetter. This right here is the deal of the month. Out of stock and on backorder at most retailers, but I found it at a little yarn shop in northern Wyoming for $30! It's blue. Not my first choice, but for 50%off and in stock, I couldn't say no. And the great thing about shipping within Wyoming is that I called on Thursday and had it on Saturday!
It's big and fits all my purse and work stuff plus my knitting.

Last night while I watched the Academy Awards, I worked on Clapotis and have just finished the increase rows. I was going to take a picture, but it's boring - just a triangle. So, I'll wait until I have something interesting to show you.
Despite my grand plans, I got very little done. A little tiny bit of knitting, no sewing, and I didn't fold a single piece of laundry. I really could have used another day or two to get things done. Oh, who am I kidding. Even with another day, I'd still feel like I didn't get anything done. It's a continuous problem when you have too much to do and not enough time to do it.
Comments
I didn't accomplish a fraction of my grand plans either. I think sometimes we just put way to much on ourselves. Maybe if I planned less, I'd actually get more accomplished.
Love the purse. Butterfly looks great, and yeah for getting gauge. Can't wait to see you casting on for it.

Weekends are for relaxing and having fun, too...not just getting things done. Go with it. The purling will get easier. It takes awhile for your brain to get in gear with your hands. The purse is fabulous!

I wonder what it might be like for you to plan to get only one small thing done in a weekend.....
;-)

I never get done all that I hope for the weekend. Sounds like you were pretty accomplished though. I'm no bag hound, but that pretty thing looks great.

Next weekend, try making less plans and just go with the flow. You may actually get more accomplished that way, because it won't seem like work.
Margene is right, the purling will get easier. I found that the first 10 rows of Butterfly took forever, but once I started on the charts, things moved at a much nicer pace. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

Butterfly sounds quite complicated... purling with stranding in the back? Yikes!
Your new bag is very cute - the perfect size too! How convenient to be able to carry your knitting and wallet/sunglasses/etc in one bag.

Congratulations on getting gauge with Butterfly! The Namaste bag is really pretty -- yay for 50% off! The color seems perfect for spring.

I SPY ... a corgi butt next to your Namaste bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tee hee :)
Looks just like the back half of my little girl corgi (usually hanging out from under the bed -- she thinks if she can't see you, you can't see her!)

So? Do you like it? Is it big enough.

Your weekend approach sounds a lot like mine!!
Only you got way more than me done :)

I hate to say this, but I think you might be me. That's too bad. I always have the best intentions. My problem is the follow through. Love that bag! I visited some of the skirt blogs and I just don't need you people putting anymore ideas in my head that I won't follow through with. Love love love those skirts y'all are doing!

WAS RILEY, PROTECTING YOUR BAG. I WISH I HAD IT TO GO TO TULSA, BUT I BET MY NEW BAD WILL WORK JUST FINE. YOU KNOW I NEED YOU TO GO TO LOWE'S, AND ORDER THE LIGHT/FAN. IT WAS SO FUNNY LAST NIGHT, DOUG LOOKED UP AT THE LIGHT AND SAID DO YOU SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE LIGHT? I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THAT LIGHT ORDERED BEFORE NOW. ALWAYS A DAY LATE. TALK TO YOU SOON.

KiehlsuUnusually rich but not greasy hand cream! I love that stuff and I'm almost out, too! The bag came super quick! Like Caitlyn said, it's the perfect color for spring! Cool deal on Butterfly. At least if you didn't get a lot of other things done, getting gauge is a big accomplishment in itself.

I like the bag, even though I'm not a "purse" person. Dog butt is cute, too. So, you're telling me I should get a move on with my skirt, is that it? As for not getting everything done, do what I do...add it to next weekend's list!

gosh...you and i are so alike at times it is scary. i also had big plans on the weekend but didn't achieve much.
last night in front of the academy awards i was thinking - i'll get this done, this done and this done. didn't even finish the first thing! maybe that was because i found an error in the back of my phildar gillet and had to reknit some of it! blech

woo hoo! new bag!
and what's up with these mums - they're always so time efficient (is that the word) and get everything done before you've even had the chance to nap on it. i wonder when this will be passed on to me. also, it wouldn't hurt to get a little of her tidiness soon.
Posted by: kris at March 6, 2006 3:20 PM
Perhaps you're not busy enough ;-) Actually, I'm half serious. If I've got a deadline or a bunch of things that absolutely have to be done, I'm amazingly efficient. Open-ended weekends tend to leave me fluttering around, doing a little bit of this and that.
Cool purse. Only $30! Baby blue may not be your favorite color but I bet you'll get lots of compliments on it because you *don't* wear it often. I have a red purse that I bought for its size, not color, and everyone thought it was the bomb. It was just something to carry my snacks and knitting around.

Sounds like my weekend. I got so much stuff half done.
And then I ripped out all the knitting and started other stuff. . . including the Chalet Socks for my sockapaloooza thing. My yarn just wasn't doing my lace pattern, and seeing yours and looking at the charts again made me really want to twist some stitches. Call me a copycat . . .

Oh! Congratulations starting Butterfly. This will be so fabulous!
Weekends are a time suck. I never get everything done that I want to. Or if I do, I end up exhausted and want a third day off to actually rest.

weekends just fly by overhere, but I've noticed that time in general is flying by.
That bag is a definite score! 50% off?!

What a nice new project and I LOVE that bag! That is my favorite color, so I would just be dyeing over there :) Glad you got it all loaded up already!

Oooh...pretty colors on Butterfly.
