Spinning!

I am now an official owner of a Lendrum spinning wheel. Wheeee! It came last night and I'm just so excited.

Here it is still in the box from Bountiful

And here are all the pieces

And finally, put together (and boy is that process simple)

Last night I sat and treadled while I knit on Clapotis and watched television. And it was so much fun. Does that mean I'm sick? Just treadling was a blast. I got to where I could treadle without really thinking about it, and I think that's the goal. Tonight I might try to spin, or I might just treadle some more and maybe try knitting some on Butterfly while I do it. Depends on how brave I'm feeling.

Oooo, lucky you!!

I am such a spinning virgin......and I have NO idea what you are talking about.......
I am so very afraid to even learn, because I don't have enough time, as it is. If I learn how to spin, then what happens to my knitting time? And where do I put the wheel.......and could a dachshund get strangled in the wheel mechanism somehow? And, of course, a dachshund puppy would eat the wheel...
I think I'll just stick to knitting.
But, You go Girl!!!!!!!

Yay!!!! It's gorgeous, Steph!!! You're so cute to sit there and treadle. =) Can't wait to see what you spin!

Posted by: caitlyn at March 14, 2006 11:49 AM

Now that's what I call multi-tasking.

Posted by: Kat at March 14, 2006 11:59 AM

Wow! You are such the multi-tasker! Is there anything you can't do? I sort of have the same view as Christine but I do envy you. Who knows the day isn't over I might own one of those some day!

Posted by: Stephanie at March 14, 2006 12:16 PM

Hooray for you! Can't wait to see your spinning!

Posted by: Carole at March 14, 2006 12:19 PM

Awesome. You are going to love it Stephanie! Treadling is so relaxing on its own!

In addition to my sincere congratulations, a hint. Practice for now spinning so that the wheel always turns to the RIGHT, or clockwise. Get that burned into your brain and your treadling muscles. Then, when you get enough yarn spun to ply, it won't throw you for such a loop to have to start going in the opposite direction! Just saying.

Yee-haw! I was going to ask you when it was due to arrive. You are going to have so much fun!

Posted by: PumpkinMama at March 14, 2006 12:30 PM

whoa, you are going to be a spinner now! I can't wait to see some of your handspun!

Posted by: Diana at March 14, 2006 12:47 PM

How fun! Congrats on the arrival of your new toy!

Posted by: Angela at March 14, 2006 12:57 PM

you've gone over to the dark side!

Posted by: jacqueline at March 14, 2006 1:02 PM

Woo Hoo! Congratulations!

Posted by: Areli at March 14, 2006 1:08 PM

ooooh... jealous!

Can't wait to see what you spin up!

Posted by: Coleen at March 14, 2006 1:18 PM

Forgive the resort to monkey language, but...

Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! Ooo!

Posted by: Katherine at March 14, 2006 1:21 PM

Woot!!!!

You're a spinner, you're a spinner! You've come to the dark side! You're a spinner!

If you can knit while you are treadling at a consistent speed you're probably good to give actual spinning a try. Though you may wish to practice stopping and starting repeatedly as I know I had to do that a lot when I first started spinning.

Have fun and I'll be waiting (im)patiently to see your spinning efforts!

Yeah it came! I'm so excited for you. Your just going to have a blast!

Posted by: Rebekah at March 14, 2006 1:32 PM

Oh! So exciting! The treadling helps, I think. The last thing you want to be thinking about it is your feet when you introduce the fiber/twist/intake to the mix. ;)

Good luck!

How exciting! I'm completely intimidated by the idea of spinning.

I also LOVE your skirt! Tres cute!

Posted by: Kaitie Tee at March 14, 2006 2:33 PM

So exciting! Enjoy your beautiful new Lendrum! Are you going to give it a name? =)

Posted by: Rossana at March 14, 2006 2:37 PM

Hey! You bought my wheel! Good choice.

Posted by: claudia at March 14, 2006 2:55 PM

Oh my lord, you have to PUT IT together?? I had no idea! That's a feat - Congrats!

Posted by: jillian at March 14, 2006 3:57 PM

Congratulations. Clockwise to spin. Counterclockwise to ply. I am counting on pics soon of freshly spun yarn....

Posted by: Dianna at March 14, 2006 5:19 PM

How fun and exciting! I don't know a thing about spinning but have been having a ball watching everyone begin this hobby.

Posted by: Lynette at March 14, 2006 6:43 PM

Congratulations! The first night I put together my wheel, my teenage stepson and some of his friends were home getting ready for a dance. As each one hopped into the shower, another one would be magically drawn to the wheel. It didn't even have the flyer on, but every time I'd come into the kitchen, another gangly boy would be watching TV, treadling away like crazy.

No one can resist the hypnotic rhythm. No one.

Posted by: jessie at March 15, 2006 6:17 AM

Uh oh... I think you've crossed over the the dark side! BUt as long as you can knit at the same time, I guess it's okay. =)

Posted by: Zarah at March 15, 2006 6:20 AM

Congrats! And really, you chose the best wheel (I speak from experience!). When I first started spinning I practiced my treadling in the same way and oddly enough if hubster is really stressed, he'll sit on the sofa, pop in a movie and treadle to relax.

Posted by: amanda at March 15, 2006 7:58 AM

Ok, to put it simply, I want your wheel, your skirt AND your horses!! I am so jealous over here, can you tell!

Posted by: Dani at March 15, 2006 10:14 AM

Congrats! I love my Lendrum. Did you get a wheel bag also?

Posted by: Nancy at March 15, 2006 11:22 AM

I would say welcome to the dark side, but I haven't entered "that" side of the fiber world yet!

I imagine you are going to enjoy it so much! Yay!

Posted by: Joelene at March 15, 2006 3:05 PM

yep, that means your sick. sick I tell you! :P
