Red Around The House
Following Margene's lead and jumping on the Project Spectrum bandwagon, I took pictures of some of the red things around my house. I knew I had a lot of red, but there was more than I thought.

Fabric for the shades with a red paisley swirl and a red lampshade in the same color red

A throw pillow and the living room curtains I made awhile ago.

More red living room stuff

The red dining room and a side table with a red runner.

Random red kitchen stuff

Fabric for living room pillows. I actually have them almost finished. I'll post some pictures soon.
So, red is clearly one of my favorites, but pink...there's no pink in my house. None. Well, there are a couple of sweaters, but I had so much red, I decided to just skip the pink.
I still need to do my post card, although I'm hoping to have it finished this week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that because I just can't seem to get motivated to do it. I don't think I'll do any more of the post card swaps - it just really isn't for me. But, if time allows this weekend I'm going to paint the chair in my craft room (red of course) and work on making a cushion for the seat out of the same fabric I used on the shades.
In Spinning News - I think my new wheel needs a name. Don't you? If you'd like to suggest a name, please leave it in the comments. I'll pick a winner and send you a little something as a thank you. I treadled some more last night while I knit on my sock. A bit more challenging of a project and yet I could treadle while I did yarn overs and decreases - progress. I actually think I'm going to wait until the weekend to spin anything because I need to watch the dvd I have while I do it, and Travis would not find that exciting television viewing. So, I'll do it while he's busy with something else.
Comments
And I thought I liked red! A similar thing happened to me once at the laundromat. This lady looked at my clothes and made a comment on how many red sweaters I had. I think in my case it's a way to exorcise all those navy blue attorney suits.

You should name your wheel Leonora!

How 'bout Elmer? I always think old-fashioned names are great for inanimate objects, and Lendrum and Elmer share a bunch of letters.

That's a lot of red! I love the Kitchen Aid and the curtains you made are great. Don't know about naming the wheel. I've named mine (Alice, Lucy, Rosie and Tallulah) but it would be hard to name someone else's, I think.

The red wall and all the reds, actually, are beautiful! Maybe Rapunzel for your wheel?
Posted by: margene at March 15, 2006 12:26 PM
Maybe Gordy after it's maker? But maybe that's not pretty enough for such a pretty wheel.

How about Helm? Like a ship and when you're spinning you could say you're at the Helm!

Ooooooohhhhhhhhhh! Looks at the awesome photography skills! See, different angles make all the difference!!!
I love that vase and the fabric. You have such wonderful colors and textures in your house.

Wow, all the red! Wonderful! And a red KitchenAide!!!!!!!!!Lucky you!

Bess. I hope it's not too cow-y. But it's such a great, folksy, feminine, frilly but not too much nonsense kind of name.

Hey...I have the exact same kitchen aid in red!

Wow that's a lot of red, I have a deep burgundy couch, but that's about all the red for me. We mostly have greens.
Hmmm, wheel name, Gwendolyn. or what about Beauty. As in Sleeping Beauty, just don't prick yourself, but I didn't see a distaff or spindle so doubt there's anything you could actually poke yourself on.

Bertha-- my reasoning is really corny so I am not putting on here.

Wow, that is a lot of red! I used to have a red kitchen sink and full set of red LeCreuset, but then got tired of it all. I'd be hard pressed to find any red. As for naming your wheel, I have strong opinions on that subject. Suffice it to say that I consider them machines, and don't. Their makers named them for me in the case of the Kromskis (Minstrel and Symphony), but the Lendrum is the Lendrum and the new/old Ashford is the Ashford and my car is the Audi and my truck is the truck. I did name my Magellan GPS "Maggie" but that is a no-brainer because we use the female voice. Then again, I had trouble naming my kids.....

How about Hank?
It works on two levels.

When I name things I usually pick something out of Greek or Norse mythology... I named my mom's spinning wheel Artemis. What about Verdandi? She's one of the norns, who in Norse mythology "spun" the fates of mankind :-)

Congrats on the new wheel! And I enjoyed the Project Spectrum photos.
As for naming the wheel, I have 2 suggestions:
1) Athena (Greek goddess of spinning and weaving, not to mention wisdom and household arts and crafts)
2) Holda (Germanic goddess of spinning)
Look forward to hearing the name you pick.
Happy spinning!

I love all the red in your house!
How about "Wade" for your spinning wheel? "Wade the Wheel"?

You do have a lot of red! The color is growing on me, and I'm starting to collect more red stuff as well. As for your wheel, congrats. I just started spinning in December and am really enjoying it it. Eleanor is my pick for a name. Only because it has some of the same sounding letters as Lendrum, plus I think it's a pretty, old fashioned name.

What lovely project spectrum photos. I love a red dining room. If I had an actual dining room I'd paint it red. sigh.
The name of your wheel? How about Lindy? Lindy Lendrum sounds good to me. Or Leona. Just by looking at her, I'd be tempted to call her "Kate" but that's just me. ;-)

This might be too obvious and simple (and I'm not sure if anyone else has said this), but how about Lennie? =)
Posted by: Angela at March 15, 2006 8:07 PM
Wow, that is indeed a lot of red! I don't have much in the way of pink for the house either. Too traumatic of a childhood pink experience, LOL!
I did forget that I have faux-fiestaware and one of the colors is cranberry... Oooops!

I just used my Amex points to get the same KitchenAid...in red! As for the wheels name....Siobhan. Dunno why, just popped into my chaos centered brain.

Love seeing all of the red around your house. Thanks for sharing, Steph.
Do you want me to take you off the list for the postcard swap? I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy it...
Posted by: Lolly at March 16, 2006 11:37 AM
I love seeing all the pics of the vibrant red items in your home! How lively!
Wendy beat me to the punch with Leonora as a name suggestion for your new Lendrum, so I will go with Guinevere or Genevieve. No other reason than because I think those names sound so "romantical" and I hope you fall in love with spinning on your new, beautiful wheel!
Happy St. Patty's Day!

You could name your wheel after my granddaughter, whose birthday was on the day you received your wheel: Jenny, as in Spinning Jenny!
