I Am Pleased To Present...
The completed Ombre.

Project Details:
Pattern: Ombre Blanket from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts
Yarn: Plymouth Alpaca 3-Ply Sport
Needles: US #11 Addi Turbo 40"
Modifications/Thoughts: No modifications, except I substituted the Plymouth alpaca for the Blue Sky Alpaca specified in the pattern. This project took forever (as I'm sure most of you know). And really, for the most part, I've been pretty diligent with working on it. It has no business being in a book called Last-Minute Knitted Gifts, even if it is in the "More than 8 Hours" section (I started this project in late October). I'm going to have to think long and hard before I make another throw, but I know my mom really loves this blanket and will take wonderful care of it. She's already snuggled under it and thinks it's wonderful. Really, there's nothing better than having a hand knit gift loved and appreciated. So, in the end, it was all worth it.

Bravo! Wonderful! Love. It.

It is gorgeous! You're right when you say it does not belong in book on last-minute gifts. Any blanket that large will take a long time to knit. Way to go - I'm glad it still seems worth it in the end!

Congrats - your hard work is well worth it, as it looks so comfy. Glad your mom is enjoying it.

GORGEOUS! Congratulations! I'm sure you're very glad it's finished!

That is really pretty. How many people out there have alpaca blankets? It's a special fiber. I don't really think of a blanket as a last minute gift either(unless you knit it on size 35 needles or something). But isn't it nice to have it done? Now you'll be able to see your mother enjoy it for years and each time you'll feel better about all the work and time you put into it.

That is just gorgeous! Congrats on finally finishing it, I know you worked really hard on it!
And congrats to your mom for getting such a great gift.

OKay I was shocked to read it was from Last MInute Knitted Gifts, definitely needs to be marked differently, but it's a beautiful throw and I'm s ure will be loved for many many years.
It turned out fabulously!

Wow, wow, wow! I can't believe how amazing it looks! I always thought that too.. why would an afghan knit out of sport weight yarn be in that book?! Well, I give you lots of credit and it sounds like it is already getting lots of love :)
Posted by: Dani at February 13, 2006 9:47 AM
All of your hard work really paid off in this lovely afghan, Steph! I love the color variations on this one. Your mother will love it - no doubt about it.

WOW! It is really beautiful. I can only imagine how warm it is. I have keep my distance from knitting afghans...I just don't know if I could stay with it! Good for you for sticking it out. It looks well worth the time.

yay!!! congrats on finishing this blanket! it's gorgeous.

That is stunning! I often wonder who decides just how long some of these projects should take...I'm not the world's slowest knitter by any means, but can never do things in the estimated time. But, great job on this throw...it's an accomplishment of a different kind to do a large, long-term project. (Ask me, after how many baby blankets?!)

The colors you picked are really really nice looking - makes me wanna make one.... but.... ummm... not so sure I'm gonna. I might never finish it! I know it has to be satisfying for you that it's finished now. :)

It's beautiful and will be well loved. That must feel very good and almost better than having it off the needles!

WOW! Ombre looks great! Congratulations on getting it finished :) I agree that afghans in general, and specifically this afghan, have no business being in a book of last minute knitted gift items.

Pretty. Its a good thing you got that blanket bug out of your system early in your knitting career!
Posted by: claudia at February 13, 2006 11:04 AM
Wow, it is sooo beautiful! wonderful work. Your mom will love it. Its inspiring me to tackle a throw-type project, just because it looks so comfy.. but the time involved, whoa. nice job.

Wow, that's really beautiful. I think this is a knit your mom will have forever and they'll be even more hours spent enjoying this throw than you spent making it. Congratulations on a beautiful project!

Congratulations! You know, I had no idea it was so *big* - the size alone makes it a huge accomplishment (no pun intended ;) but the overall look makes for a lovely and cozy looking blanket. Great job!!

It's funny, I've known that this day (when you introduce the finished Ombre to the world) was going to happen someday, but there's no way you can predict how exciting that day will be until it happens! Congratulations on your mammoth job-well-done!

Posted by: Emily at February 14, 2006 8:21 AM
It's gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! Definitely worth all of the time. I must admit I really don't even want to start with mine but all of that alpaca has been staring at me.

Woo Hoo! Good thing I've got on my dancing shoes so I can do the "Ombre's finished dance" with you! It is beautiful. Are you sure that you want to give that away? Oh, wait, you can knit one for yourself!
Posted by: Stephanie at February 14, 2006 3:29 PM
I have to delurk to say congratulations! :) I have such a short knitting-attention-span that I can't imagine finishing a project that large (and, dare I say, boring). I have a 3/4ths finished BABY blanket that I can't force myself to finish, so awesome job finishing a, ah, real blanket. Heh.
