Good And Bad

Thank you all for the lovely comments on my view. We're very lucky to be able to live in a place without close neighbors and with such wide open spaces. Although our neighbors are much closer than what I had growing up. I grew up on a cattle and horse ranch and our closest neighbor was 10 miles away and the nearest town was 35 miles away. Next time I'm at the ranch I'll take some pictures for you - that really is a great view. Despite the view, sometimes living in Laramie is less than ideal. I don't really mind the cold, winters are supposed to be cold. The most disturbing thing about the time we spent in Texas was the fact that it never really got cold - I just couldn't quite get used to that. But, the problem with Laramie is that the wind blows - pretty much constantly and usually in the 20 to 60 mph range. Let me tell you, it gets old. And poor Travis. The guy works outside and is putting up a big 4 story commercial building this winter (don't even get me started on the crazy people who thought building a building in the middle of winter in Wyoming was a good idea) and it's been just miserable. Add to that the fact that Travis hates the cold and we're talking fun and games at my house. But, anyway, I saw this view this morning when I was leaving my house and since none of the pictures from yesterday really gave you a good look at the mountains, here's another one.

On the knitting front I've turned the heel on Tech Guy Sock #2

and am anxious to be finished. I'm hoping the foot will knit itself before the weekend.

As for the swatch of Lorna's Laces I told you I got gauge with, clearly I was smoking crack or forgot how to count (option 2 is really the better choice here). I recounted it last night and we are not at 15 stitches/2 inches, but 18. Not good. So, there's gonna have to be some reswatching with the LL. I'm wondering if I wasn't still hardoring some resentment towards the yarn after the whole big ass tangled mess and didn't knit it just a little tighter than I would normally knit such lovely yarn. We shall see.

Stunning mountain photo. Sock is looking good, and your carpet is so colorful up close!

You know I never swatch for socks. I knit a bit and if it's way to small I can frog or move up a size needle (or down). After you make a few pair you'll just 'know' what works.

I know how you feel about the wind. I lived in Rapid City, SD for two years. The Black Hills are beautiful but I never got used to the feel of the biting winter wind. I guess the key is to live close enough to the mountains that the wind passes over you, rather than knocking you down when you step outside.

Yay ... heel turns ... magic moment! The colour of the Tech Guy Socks is so cozy!

Wow you made headway on that sock fast! That picture again is beautiful!

Gorgeous mountains! It's actually quite windy where I live too. My building is shaped like a horseshoe and the winds come across the wetlands. If it's a light breeze everywhere else, it's a tornado at my house. ;-)

Oh wow! I'm so amazed by that beauty. And the mountains aren't bad either :-)

REally though the sock seems to be coming along nicely! At least this one you'll know exactly how long to make it on try 1!

Incredible picture of the mountains! What color!

Absolutely love those mountains. We had the most wonderful motorcycling vacation last summer, with those mountains in sight at various points. I very much enjoyed summed in Wyoming and Montana, but probably could not tolerate the winters.....(neither could the dachshunds......)

You'll finish up that sock in no time, I'm sure. It looks great - I'm sure Travis will enjoy having a warm pair of socks to wear while he's working outside!

Aaah, so pretty. Nice work on the second tech guy sock. and Bad! Lorna's Laces.

Those views are great - I enjoyed every single picture. I've always lived in dense urban settings, so seeing such views is quite a change for me!

Who builds a building during a Wyoming winter? Probably business people who live in the southwest!

Ohhhhh...That is a beautiful view. I miss living near mountains. (Tall buildings just don't cut it.)

ok, i'm sold on the rancher idea! i think we need to start talking schematics!

I heard that smoking crack was bad for knitting gauge. You are too funny! I'm telling you CHOCOLATE! The sock is looking good! And can I just say AGAIN I hate doing gauges! Maybe one day when I grow up, gauge won't be an issue for me but until then wah wah wah!

One day, I'm coming out there to ski some big-ass mountains.

You have an amazing view from your house. It makes me want to move up there to enjoy!

Posted by: Jessica at February 23, 2006 9:23 PM

Oh my, I think you should start a weeklong knitting camp at your place - in the summer! I'd go! The views are beautiful, although a little frigid looking right now. I can just imagine myself sitting out somewhere, knitting, looking at the mountains!

Gorgeous, gorgeous view. You lucky ducky.

Do you ever get tempted and just drop everything to go up to the mountains? With that view, I would never get anything done because Karl would forever be dragging me to the hills.

Those socks are looking good, very guy-like.

What a great shot, and an amazing view!
