Sew? I Knit!

Good Morning. Dear knitting friends, I have a deal for you! Don't ya just hate it when someone says something like that? But really, you're going to like this. YaiAnn, Mari, and I have been chatting. We decided that we'd like to become a bit more proficient at sewing, but it's a little scary. Knitting is something we're all (and all of you) are completely comfortable with, but give us some fabric and a pattern and expect us to use scissors and a sewing machine and things get a litle dicey. To be quite honest, there's a cold sweat and a tension headache involved in some instances. So, we've decided that the only thing to do is set up a support group for knitters who want to try their hand at this sewing business. To that end, we've created Sew? I Knit, a sew-along for knitters. Cool, huh? And to make things really fun, we have a plan (you know I just love a good plan). We're going to take a project and sew it as a group - support and technical assistance at its finest. The first project is a skirt. That seemed like a simple and fun project that we could all get on board with, even us rookies. You get to pick any skirt pattern you want (and we have some links for you to check out). We'll start sewing on February 15th and end by March 20th. Interested? Get over to Sew? I Knit! for more information and to sign up.

Very, very tempting. You know me and the sewing machine - we love to hate each other, but we just want to love each other. I have to think about this for a lil' bit, decide if I have the time.

I sewed for years and years and have retired my machine. It comes out once a year to help me fix a few problems. I don't miss it. My button would say Sew? NOT ME! ;-)
Have fun with your KAL. It's a great idea to help enhance your skills.

I sew, but I don't wear skirts. heh. The little banner logo/icon is really cute!

Now you've done it, yet another bandwagon I'm itching to jump up onto. I saw the cutest fabric store in Buffalo this weekend too!

Oh, this is tempting! Normally, I don't wear skirts, but see, I've actually talked my husband into taking ballroom dancing lessons with me, and, guess what? We are supposed to wear skirts! I may have to join, but couldn't you wait till AFTER the Olympics?! And, I like the button, too.

I think the button and the blog are too cute! I can't seem to pull my sewing machine out and get back to sewing. But I too will think about joining!

Cute button! I’ll have to pass because I don’t own a sewing machine and my hand-sewing skills are quite poor. Oh, and I don’t wear skirts either. =) But I look forward to reading about everyone’s sewing progress!

Genius idea! This may well be what I need to lug my sewing machine in for a tune-up. Looking forward to it.

I with Grumperina - retired sew-er (note without hyphen, it's sewer........)Have fun though; I'll observe with interest!

What a cute idea, but me and my sewing machine don't get along. So I'll just have to stick with knitting and eventually spinning. But I'll be eager to watch!

I've been sewing forever (learned from my mom) but your button is *Sew Cute*!! The fun thing about sewing is teaching your daughters! (tho I don't think my mom had a bit of fun)

Sounds fun... luckily I don't have a sewing machine to tempt me. =)

You might enjoy patternreview.com - lots of advice from people who have sewn as well as technical help.
Have fun, signed,
one who used to sew but hated everything I ever made until I learned to knit.

i would absolutely love to do this! i have actually been wanting to try a bit more sewing recently so this group couldn't have come at a better time.

one problem - i don't have a sewing machine at the moment. i'm trying to work out if i can borrow one...hmmmm

Fablous idea but I failed three Singer sewing classes. Can't wait to see what everyone creates!

Aw, man... I'm such a joiner these days... this is another 'knit' along that I'll have to join! Sewing is far and away my first crafty love, although it's been years since I've done any substantial amount of sewing. I'm going to have to be a late starter though - no sewing for me until after the big test.

What a nifty idea, Stephanie! I just bought a sewing machine in November and am a total newbie. Does one need to join the KAL at the start? Or could I join later on (I've got too many other projects demanding my attention right now to be a good KAL'er)?

I cannot do this project at this time. Too many other projects in the wings. Although my sewing machine feels totally neglected. I will enjoy being a lurker though.

You guys are so industrious! I am going to stick to knitting for now, but maybe, maybe I'll be inspired to break out the sewing machine..

Great idea. Thanks for doing this. I just sign up. I bought a mini sewing machine while back but haven't really sew anything yet. This will be a great help for beginner like me.

Sorry. I finally came out of the closet last month about that fact that, deep down, I really hate to sew.

BUT, that said, I'll enjoy watching all of you joiners suffer, um, I mean, sew. It's not that I don't like the result (I do generally wear clothing), just the process. So sew away!
