One Track Mind
I've been knitting, and knitting, and knitting. I've seriously neglected Ombre because I cannot stop knitting on these mittens. I'm beginning to think it's an obsession. I just can't help myself. I tell myself I'll just knit on them for a few minutes because I need the practice on the 2-handed technique, and before I know it it's ten o'clock and I've knit on the mitten for 3 hours without even glancing at poor Ombre, neglected in his basket. This is how the mitten looks so far:

The two-handed technique continues to get easier, but my tension is still uneven and a bit spotty.

But I figure that I'll just keep practicing and maybe things will be better by the time I'm ready to start Butterfly. Which at this rate won't be too long - I'm almost half way through the first mitten!
I'm debating knitting the Norwegian Stockings from Folk Socks for additional practice before Butterfly. What do you think?

Oh they are looking fabulous! I say do the stockings, I know I have seen them out there and they are beautiful.

Well they are definitely nice socks, but I think you'd be fine going ahead with Butterfly, really you'll be amazed how much easier it is to knit two handed not on dpns.
Poor Ombre.
I really like the mitten pattern and your colors by the way.

I think you should attack whatever project you are most passionate about. You don't want to burn out on Fair Isle!

You will find it easier to knit Fair Ilse in larger projects. It is harder to get a good tension when you have to change needles so often. Circular needles will help your work remain more even. In fact, you might use Butterfly as practice for knitting the socks;-)

Your mitten is looking great! Everyone seems to be doing fair isle these days, and I am way tempted by those Norweigan stockings too.

Oh, you'll get to Ombre. Maybe force yourself to work on it between mittens.
Your tension really does look like it's improving. These look fab.
I've already ordered the yarn for the Norwegian Stockings, so I'm a huge enabler that probably shouldn't comment. Instead, I'll tell you what I told Caitlyn: you may not buy yarn for these socks! Remember the wheel!
Of course, if you already have the yarn, then go crazy. I think they'd be a fine first project.

Awesome! Fair Isle is like that. You get addicted. I was addicted to my fair isle swatch. You just want to keep knitting and knitting to watch what happens to the pattern. How's it fit anyways? Norwegian stockings.. I'd knitalong with you, that is, if you already have the yarn. So, do you? ;)

Looking good! I vote for Butterfly taking precedence, it will be easier with a bigger piece, and I'm also slightly biased towards it.

The mittens look great!! I really like the color combo. As for the Norwegian Stockings -- do you have the yarn? And the book? =)

The mittens look great - you are doing awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing Ombre. You are staying busy!

Work on the Norwegian stockings if you already have the yarn. No yarn purchases until you get your wheel!!! Poor Ombre :)

Steph, this is working up so nicely! I love watching your progess.

Fair Isle is addictive and I think you're hooked! Mittens are coming along nicely. I've been browsing your blog to catch up and have enjoyed looking at all your pictures too, very nice. My favorite funny one is Riley walking in the snow. Your projects are inspiring, as usual. The Teva Durham hat looked like it was fun knit.
Have a great weekend!

I am just so impressed with your progress! I would have given up by now. =) I would love to see you tackle the socks next.

Block that mitten first before deciding whether or not you need more practice.

Ombre: pick him up before the mittens and set the timer for 10 minutes (or some amount of time) or say "I'll do *this much*" and THEN pick up the mittens that won't let you go! Your mama wants her Ombre! You really wanna get that pile of guilt finished and out of your house, right? heh
Mittens: awesome little things - amazing how they can be so addictive! I'm dying to try some Fair Isle!

Your mitten is looking great! I also want to knit those Norwegian stockings...

I think they are looking GREAT! Don't love when a knitting project becomes so fun that you lose track of time!
