Around 'N Round We Go
I had a lovely weekend. How was your's? I didn't really do a darned thing, which in my mind is what made it so wonderful. I finished the first mitten - it's blocking and will be making an appearance tomorrow (by the way, it fits!). Other than that, I just sorta hung out. I found some wonderful fabric for the shades in my newly minted craft room - I'll take pictures as soon as they're done and hung up (that way if you all hate them, I won't be able to do anything except cry in my tea). Fabric is a funny thing. I had in my mind just what I wanted and left the fabric store with something completely different, but I absolutely love the funkiness of it (which knowing me and my definite lack of funkiness, could be very scary). Want a hint? It's paisley. Close your mouth - I know, it's shocking, but you're gonna just have to wait and see if I'm brilliant or just plain crazy. I also brought all my fabric up from the basement and organized it and my sewing machine on a bookshelf. I love having everything accessible - it's such a treat.
Oh, and I tried out the spindle again. And I have to say that it went a lot better than the first try.

I didn't move past the park and draft method, but think I might be ready next time. It's really terrible, but I couldn't be happier with it. It's think and thin and overspun and in some places barely spun at all, but by golly, it's my very first yarn and I'm tickled with it. So there.
Thank you all so much for the blog birthday/anniversary wishes. I wouldn't still be here without all of you who stop by to read what I have to say - good or bad - and leave a comment. You are all so wonderful and I'm so very grateful that I've gotten to know each and every one of you. Have a wonderful Monday.

Glad that you had a relaxing weekend, and I can't wait to see your craft room with the new shades!

I can't wait to see your craft room. I have a spare room that desparately needs to be converted from its current "junk room" status.

Well, considering I have no experience whatsoever in spinning, it looks awesome to me! What are you planning on making with it? I had a physically unproductive weekend myself - except for knitting and watching about 8-10 movies on cable!

That yarn looks yummy. Problem is, later on when you get very proficient at spinning, you will go nuts trying to duplicate that "designer yarn"! Pack it away for posterity! I wish we lived closer together...you could have come to my spindle workshop on Saturday. Keep practicing and you'll find that your hands suddenly "get it." Really.

That looks wonderful for a 2nd try. Good for you. As for you curtain fabric, it could be that you are brilliantly crazy. Can't wait to see.

You've made more progress than I have on the spindle. I have yet to create yarn of any sort. Maybe that will change next month when I take a class at the new shop in town. Love the color and it looks great!

Hey I like paisley! In fact Nick yesterday was wearing a black dress shirt and a tie with these paisley blobs on it, and the girl at the Burrito Factory commented on it and thought it was cool. She was young too, maybe Paisley is the next "cool" thing. Jees I'm aging myself, and I'm not old!
Anyway, love the yarn, it's great. It doesn't matter at all what it looks like, it's your yarn, all yours!

That is *great* spindle spun, Steaphanie! I was an odd one and couldn't get the hand of the spindle until after I got comfortable on my wheel. Very strange. But now I enjoy my spindles.
Do you have any plans for it or will you keep the skein for posterity?
