Harry Potter Update

Today is the day the Gryffindor Socks meet their new owner. I'm nervous and scared that she'll like them, but I'm trying to think positive. So, after a bit of blocking, I put them in the sock sleeve.

Thanks to Carolyn for the idea.

And then I wrapped them up. Ok, well there wasn't actually any wrapping involved unless you count the tissue paper I wrapped around them before I stuck them in this box.

I'm like a nervous mother sending her first born off to school on the first day. What if she doesn't like them? What if they don't fit? What if...? What if...? What if...? Yep, I'm neurotic. I can't help myself.

In other Christmas knitting news, I started the Thrum Mittens on Saturday.

This was my first successful attempt at a tubular cast-on and it went off without a hitch. I don't know what the problem was the last time I tried it, but whatever. I really like these mittens, even though I haven't worked on them much. However, if any of you know a good trick for getting that roving to stay twisted on the needle while I'm moving those stitches over it, I'd be very grateful. I've found the whole process to be a bit awkward - I feel like I have too many needles and too many thumbs.

Today is my last day of work this week - I do so love a holiday week. Tomorrow I'm staying home to bake pies and rolls and knit as much as I can. It sounds like the perfect day.

The sock sleeve is really cute and the wrapping is beautiful! You did a wonderful job on the socks and they are a lovely gift. I hope your friend will like them.
Love the color of the thrum mittens!
Have fun baking and knitting!

The Gryffindor socks look great! I'm sure the recipient will love them!

The sock sleeve is great! How are ya'll doing that? Can't help with the thrumming....but the Harlot has a Thrum FAQ on her blog. I'll also be home baking and knitting tomorrow. 3 pies and 32 dinner rolls...not too bad.

Is it just me or does the mitten look like a troll head, you know those dolls from the late 80's early 90's.

I wish I had some tips, but I have no idea, as I've never even heard of this technique till you posted about it.

The sock packaging is way to cute! I bet she likes that part so well she doesn't even want to open them.

Your presentation of the Griffindor socks is great! You are so creative. I have no words of advice on the mittens - sorry. I would like to come spend the day with you tomorrow - baking and knitting - it sounds like a good relaxing day. What kind of pies are you baking?

Love the graphics on the sock sleeve! And the thrummed mittens do kind of resemble a troll head at this point.. hee hee. I'm starting bake tonight. and FYI - I might be asking you some questions on those socks (conwy from knitting on the road, right?)

Socks -- awesome. Mittens -- whoa. Tubular cast-on -- lucky!!! (A little Napolean Dynamite reference for ya, there.) Can you tell me how it works?

I am the exact same way about giving the my knitting as a gift. So nerve-wracking! The socks are fab, the sleeve is fab and the mittens look really cute so far!

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Those mittens look like the best, softest, warmest thing ever! I've never knit a pair like that, so I have no idea how to make the roving stay where you want it to. The socks look great, too, all packaged up and ready to go!

I love the socks! It makes me want to learn how to make socks. My mother in law has an addiction to funky socks. Hmmm, maybe next Christmas.

The sock recipient is sure to love them, Steph! Such a wonderful gift, handknit with love, and then such a pretty package too ;)

Those thrummed mittens look so cozy!

She's totally going to love the Harry Potter socks! Your presentation with the sock wrapper is lovely. The thrummed mittens look like fun - are you using a kit?

Posted by: Diana at November 22, 2005 12:57 PM

Oh she'll LOVE it! The sock sleeve and the box are almost as cute as the socks :)

Love the presentation of those socks... what is not to love! Fab.

The socks crack me up....I am SO Gryffindore! How did you do that great sock sleeve?! By the way, the next time, thanks to one of my classes at SOAR, that you want to alter a sleeve, I have all the information in a notebook! Happy Thanksgiving....I'm off to make rolls.

Those socks are the best thing I've seen in a long tome! I love the sock sleeve too! What a great idea! And the presentation is the best part. Beautiful bag!

I am so stealing the sock sleeve idea - it's fabulous! And the socks are so great - of course she'll love them!!

And I really love the colors you're using for the thrum mittens. Was that a kit and will you tell where it came from?? I'm such a sucker for blues/purples.
