Not Much Knitting

I don't feel like I've been doing much knitting and I've been horrible about taking pictures. I meant to take a picture of Frieda blocking - but I haven't done it. The good news is that I'm almost finished with the second sleeve - I only have 12 rows left, so I'm hopeful I can finish it over lunch. We shall see.

Sleeve blocking and seaming are just around the corner.

Does anyone have a sport weight sock yarn that you just love? I'm looking for something to use when I "teach" some friends how to knit socks. Spinnerella gave me a good pattern to use that uses a bit thicker yarn (hence the necessity of sport weight) and is easier for new sock knitters. Since all my sock yarn is fingering weight, I'm in the market for some sport weight. Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

All of you out there who live in warm places - stop complaining about how it's too hot to wear wool - you really don't realize how lucky you are. It snowed here last night and is supposed to get down to the teens tonight. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it's good sweater weather, but I'm so not ready for winter. Have a great day.

The sleeve looks great, I'll look forward to pictures of it put together, but no pressure of course!

Hmm, the only sport weight I can think of might be one of the Dale superwashes, but for th elife of me I can't figure out the name except Baby Ull and I think it's technically a DK or fingering.

Wow, snow already? Well, at least you know you'll be able to wear Freida the moment you're done seaming! I love lunchtime knitting =)

The end is in sight with Freida! YAY!
Snow, huh? Well, I'm definitely not complaining that it's too hot to wear wool!

You're so close to being done with Frieda! Yay!

I wish I could send some sunshine and warm weather your way - I'm more than happy to share. :)

I've never knit a sock with sport weight yarn, but my first sock was knit with worsted weight, using Stahl Wolle Big Print. It went quickly and the size 5 dpns were an easy transition from straights and circs. This is the pattern I used: http://www.wiseneedle.com/knitpatfire.asp. I had a little trouble figuring out the short row heel/wraps, but other than that it was a great beginner pattern.

Wow, Frieda is going to be done soon! I can't believe you already got snow.. it does seem too soon. Stay warm!

How about Koigu Kersti for a first pair of socks? (though that is worsted..)

I am SO jealous of the snow - I'm ready, I'm ready now! My skiing gene has been activated by the few cool days we've had, it's time to put it into action!

Seems like the sleeves are normal-looking - sigh of relief! Now let's see if they fit into the armcye ;).

If you don't mind varigated then Mountain Colors Weavers Wool yarn or Mountain Colors Bearfoot yarn is a great sport yarn to make socks in. My last pair of socks was done in Weavers Wool at 6 1/2 sts per inch and US size 2 needles in color Northern Lights. Yummm... Such wonderful colorways too.

The sweater is moving along. I have to say the color is awesome in person. Seems no matter what, the true color never comes out of photos quite right. I was really hoping to see some photos of the snow today since it had to wait until after I left. Maybe next time you will humor/tease me with pictures of the snow.

One word. Koigu.

And I wash my Koigu sock in the washing machine and nothing bad happens. No dryer though.

did you say snow?? wow!

sleeve looks good!! looks like you are making this sweater just in time for the cold weather!

Pretty sleeve, sucky weather! That bites that you already got snow.

I'd go with one of the Artyarns sport or DK weight for a sock yarn. Or Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. Mmmmm, cashmerino.

I remember when I lived in Wyoming, it snowed one year in July... I like the snow though, so no problems there :)

Love the look of the sleeve--that is knitting up so fast!
