I'm An Airhead
I did exactly what I said I was going to do. Backyard Leaves went for a swim in the sink and is now on the blocking board. Do you think it's important that the directions said to steam block? I'm not a big fan of the steam block for wool, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. Anyway, I digress. So, I thought to myself, "I'll wait until morning to take a picture because the light will be better." Makes perfect sense, but I kind of forgot to actually take the picture. I know. I'm sorry. I'll take one tonight in the crappy light in my dining room - that'll have to do. I have to tell you, it is a really pretty scarf. It blocked out beautifully. I sure hope Blossom likes it.
Frieda is really coming along. I like the yarn a lot and it's nice to be knitting a sweater with something other than cotton. I just started the increases on the back, and considering I've had basically no knitting time in the last couple of days - that's good progress. Stupid work getting in the way of knitting.
Have a great weekend and happy knitting.

I've never steam blocked wool (only cotton), so I'm not sure what effect it would have compared to a standard wet blocking. Maybe with steam blocking the leaves of the scarf would retain more texture?
Frieda is coming along beautifully! Hope you find more knitting time this weekend.

I've steam blocked wool, it works nicely - the only reason I can think they'd specify would be sopping wet it might stretch too much? No idea. Frieda's looking great.

Personally I think unless it's a special type of yarn that requires specific blocking it's up to the person blocking as to their preferred method. I doubt the blocking police will come and arrest you, and even if they did your a lawyer, you can talk your way out of it.
Frieda is looking lovely, and seems to be coming along quickly!

I'm sure the bath blocking will be fine. I've never actually steam blocked anything due to my fear of irons and I've never had any problems.
Frienda is soooo pretty!

Wet blocking should be fine. As long as there wasn't a reason why the yarn shouldn't get wet (and I can't think of any!). Looking forward to seeing the finished scarf!

Glad to hear that you like the yarn, Stephanie. Perhaps that whole mess I told you about before was some bad lot of it? Anyway, your Freida is lovely!
Hope you have a great weekend~

I agree with the other posters - I think it depends on the yarn and pattern. My understanding is that it all depends on how you want the finished item to look. Personally, I prefer a wet block. I feel like I've really done something, you know? This visit is my first time to your blog - it is very pretty!
