Frieda Has A Front
I finished the front of Frieda this morning. I can't believe how fast this project is moving along (even with that 20 row redo).
I'm pretty sure I will be able to finish the sleeves this weekend, which I'm definately excited about. For those of you who didn't see the miscrossed cable, I realized I didn't show you any of the correct cable pattern. Makes it kind of difficult to see a mistake without seeing how it's supposed to look.
I'm so impressed with these cables. This is my first attempt at cables and they aren't as difficult as I imagined them, and the finished product is so pretty. I saw a cabled sweater at the store the other day and I was amazed at how flat the cables were. It just really isn't anywhere close to the same. Handknitted cables rock.
Now, a stupid question. I left the shoulder stitches live so I can do a 3-needle bind off. Should I block the front and back first or do the bind off before I block them?
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend full of productive knitting.

Stephanie that is gorgeous! You have done a lovely job! I can't wait to see it finished. You are inspiring me to do something more fitted! You got so much done so quickly! Have a good weekend.

Wow - looking good! At this rate, you're going to be done with Frieda before me... :) Isn't it such a cool feeling to look at the cables and realize that you actually created something so beautiful?

I didn't know you hadn't tried cables before, they're wonderfully fun. It's looking great, can't wait to see the sleeves and then the finished project.

The front looks wonderful - those cables do indeed pop! You'd never know you're a first-timer.
As for shoulders, I'd do the 3 needles BO then block.

Frieda's front looks great! I think doing the 3-neeedle bind off on the shoulders, then blocking is the way to go. That way, you can block the shoulder seam at the same time.

Those cables look amazing. Great job on your first cable project! When I do plan to do a 3-needle bind off shoulders, I block first, then bind off.

No kidding, that has knit up fast! It looks lovely.

It looks great! I typically block first, because if you join the two first, the double layer of fabric will take forever to dry! Unless, I guess, you join but then spread them out to dry (I don't have the space for such luxury, hehe). Enjoy knitting the sleeves!

Damn, you are fast. This looks awesome. So, so pretty.
I usually block, then seam.

Pretty. As to your question, it does. not. matter. My only question for you, is are you sure that three needle bind off is the appropriate one for your garment? For heavy, bulky sweaters, I don't use this as I want a more structured seam. It is, however, a neat trick.

i'm so glad you posted this photo - because i was looking at the miscrossed cable thinking... hell - i have no idea what she is talking about. it was like those 'spot the difference' picture games you get in magazines.

Oh my goodness. Look what happens when I can't check my blogs for a few days! You go and work some magic! That sweater is going to be stinking gorgeous on you. And you're right, the cables are just so much better handknit. And that red!! Ooooh la la.
