Frieda Has A Front

I finished the front of Frieda this morning. I can't believe how fast this project is moving along (even with that 20 row redo).

friedafrontfinished.JPG

I'm pretty sure I will be able to finish the sleeves this weekend, which I'm definately excited about. For those of you who didn't see the miscrossed cable, I realized I didn't show you any of the correct cable pattern. Makes it kind of difficult to see a mistake without seeing how it's supposed to look.

finishedcables.JPG

I'm so impressed with these cables. This is my first attempt at cables and they aren't as difficult as I imagined them, and the finished product is so pretty. I saw a cabled sweater at the store the other day and I was amazed at how flat the cables were. It just really isn't anywhere close to the same. Handknitted cables rock.

Now, a stupid question. I left the shoulder stitches live so I can do a 3-needle bind off. Should I block the front and back first or do the bind off before I block them?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend full of productive knitting.

Drat!

Have I ever mentioned that I'm anal? I am. Have I told you about how very much I hate mistakes? I have, I'm sure. And I believe I mentioned just the other day how much I was enjoying Frieda. You see where this is going, don't you? No? Well, let me show you.

crossedcable.JPG

See that? Yep, it's a miscrossed cable. Grrrr. And it was 20 rows back. All the way back to where I started the armhole shaping. The good thing about that is that it was easy to rip out because I just ripped back to where I cast off for the armhole and I was set, but damn. All the progress I made last night gone. Gone. Gone.

Needless to say, I'm still working on the front of Frieda and will be for the next little bit. I still love the yarn and the pattern, despite my stupidity.

Now, a question for you all. I need to lengthen the sleeves on dear Frieda. The pattern calls for a 17 3/4 inch sleeve and I'm more a 19-20 inch sleeve gal. I have a couple of thoughts and would like to know what you think. One option is to lengthen the ribbing. The pattern is designed to have less ribbing on the sleeves than the body (30 rows on the body v. 16 on the sleeves) and I thought I could make the ribbing on the sleeves match. At this gauge that would add about 2 inches. Or, the other option is to add one or two more cable repeats to the sleeve before the armhole shaping (one repeat is 8 rows, which at 24 rows to 4 inches is a little over 1 inch, but two repeats is 2.66 inches). What do you think?

Have a great day.

Birthday Loot

Frieda looks just like the picture I showed you yesterday, only longer. So, I thought I'd spare you another picture. Maybe it will be interesting again when the front is finished.

Thank you all so much for the lovely birthday wishes. You're all super nice and made my day. My family and friends are more than generous and I'm quite spoiled. Ok, I made out like a bandit. You already know all about Butterfly, and I got a lovely silk throw pillow that makes my favorite knitting chair super luxurious, a hand carved nativity scene (my mom's so practical - if she waited to give it to me for Christmas I couldn't enjoy it over the holidays - she's right ya know), a couple of pretty necklaces, a bathrobe, yummy bath products, sock yarn from Germany
Germany.JPG
It's Italian yarn, but my good friend brought it back from her vacation to Germany. I'm set for sock yarn for the winter!

And my dear husband had this waiting for me when I got home Friday night.
CoffeeTable.JPG
That, my friends, is my long-awaited coffee table. And I just love it. It's going to take a little getting used to because it's quite a bit bigger than the one we had, but I'm just tickled with it.

So, I had another wonderful birthday and don't feel any older than I did 2 days ago. Have a great day and happy knitting.

A Long Post

As promised, I have blocking pictures of Backyard Leaves.
leavesblock.JPG

And now she's all bundled up and ready to meet her mom. She's off on her journey today, and should arrive by the end of the week.
blossom.JPG

I debated for quite awhile about the "best" way to sew the 2 halves together. After some research in a couple of knitting books, I decided plain ol' matress stitch was the way to go. I hope Blossom is happy with that decision. If she'd prefer something else, I've included the extra yarn in the return package, so she can do what she'd prefer with the seam.

The back of Frieda is finished. Speedy knit, that one.
finishedback.JPG
And I've started the cables on the front.
friedafront.JPG
This cable business is a little tricky until you get the hang of it and those cable stitches are tight! I was very nervous because when I'm knitting the cable stitches there appears to be a huge gaping hole next to the cable (is this normal or am I doing something wrong?). I was pulling my hair out over those puppies. Then, much to my amazement, they closed right up on the next row - well, they're still there but you can't see them. One of those knitting mysteries I suppose. I hope that I get into the rhythm of the cables and cruise along on the front. It'd be nice to have this sweater in the next few weeks because we are fast approaching sweater weather around here. I have to tell you, as much as I love the feel of the Alpaca Silk, I've been quite annoyed with the yarn. I have run across three major knots so far - 2 in one ball and 1 in another - and a lot of twigs and little bits of stuff.
knot.JPG
Of course, these knots show up in the middle or end of a row and require tinking back and cutting off a fair amount of yarn. Did you notice all the new yarn spots on the back? A lot from having to cut knots out. I'm worried that I'm not going to have enough yarn and am going to have to order another ball to finish. You'd think Debbie Bliss could produce a bit better product, especially for what this yarn cost!

I've been thinking about Butterfly a lot over the last few days. I'm intrigued by the pattern, the yarn, the colors, and the technique used to make such a lovely garmet. A while ago, I ordered a dvd on the two-handed fair isle technique. I watched it this weekend and it was quite good. There was also quite a bit on steeking and finishing, which I found helpful as well. I ordered some needles a few weeks ago and they arrived on Friday.
needles.JPG
These will be debuted on Butterfly. In reading the Butterfly pattern I noticed that the finished measurement for the small (the size my sister bought for me) is 105.5 cm (about 41.5 inches) at the underarm, which is much too large for me. The petite size is a much better 96 cm (38 inches) around, but is too short. I sent an e-mail to Virtual Yarns explaining my problem and asking for advise. I got the nicest e-mail from Jade Starmore herself explaining exactly what I should do - knit the petite and make it longer - with specific instructions for how to do that. I do so love a company with a wonderful product and outstanding customer service! Very impressive.

Finally, I had a lovely weekend knitting, but also had to dedicate some time to reading my new book.
harlot.JPG
If you don't have this book, go get it. It's hilarious. I wish I had Stephanie's talent for making the every day things so interesting. I do believe this one is even better than the first (and I wasn't sure that was possible).

As you can see, I had a lovely weekend and today is my birthday, so today should be good too. Have a great day. Happy knitting.

I'm An Airhead

I did exactly what I said I was going to do. Backyard Leaves went for a swim in the sink and is now on the blocking board. Do you think it's important that the directions said to steam block? I'm not a big fan of the steam block for wool, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. Anyway, I digress. So, I thought to myself, "I'll wait until morning to take a picture because the light will be better." Makes perfect sense, but I kind of forgot to actually take the picture. I know. I'm sorry. I'll take one tonight in the crappy light in my dining room - that'll have to do. I have to tell you, it is a really pretty scarf. It blocked out beautifully. I sure hope Blossom likes it.

Frieda is really coming along. I like the yarn a lot and it's nice to be knitting a sweater with something other than cotton. I just started the increases on the back, and considering I've had basically no knitting time in the last couple of days - that's good progress. Stupid work getting in the way of knitting.

Have a great weekend and happy knitting.

A Little Something About Me

Cyndi tagged me. So, here's a little something about me.

Ten Years Ago: I was in my junior year of college. I decided that there was no possible way I could go to three more years of school, so I'd decided against law school. I was a marketing major and enjoyed my business classes. I was college rodeoing and Travis and I broke up after dating for 2 years - he wanted to see other people.

Five Years Ago: I was in my first year of law school - funny how things change. Travis and I had moved back to Laramie from Dallas for school. I was working at a day spa and for a wedding photographer and going to school full-time.

One Year Ago: Travis and I had been married for almost a year. I was a little over a year into my first attorney job and had finally started feeling like I wasn't the stupidest person on the planet - school just doesn't teach you what you need to know. We'd been in our house for three years and I'd just started painting and shopping for furniture - and had started getting rid of that college furniture that's so lovely.

Five Snacks: 1) chips and salsa, 2) cheese and crackers, 3) popcorn - Pop Secret Homestyle, 4) homemade cookies, 5) dark chocolate anything

Five Songs I Know All The Words To: 1) The Gambler by Kenny Rogers - my "favorite" song when I was a kid, 2) Me and You by Kenney Chesney - my wedding song, 3) Alcohol by Brad Paisley - my sister manages a bar - this song always makes me think of her, 4) The National Anthem, 5) Amazing Grace

Five Things I Would Do With $100 Million Dollars: 1) Give it to Travis to manage - I'm not a good money manager, 2) Buy property somewhere warm so my husband would be happy - he hates cold weather, 3) Open a yarn store - I know, but it's true, 4) Provide for my family, 5) Let Travis decide what to do with the rest.

Five Places To Run Away To: 1) Kauai, Hawaii, 2) Ireland, 3) Australia, 4) Any tropical island, 5) Home

Five Things I Would Never Wear: 1) Exposed lingerie (except for a camisole), 2) Jeans to a wedding (people do that in Wyoming), 3) A short ruffled skirt (I'd look like a crane), 4) Skin tight pants, 5) Fashion cowboy boots (just wear the real thing)

Five Favorite TV Shows: 1) Alias, 2) Lost, 3) Grey's Anatomy, 4) CSI, 5) According to Jim

Five Biggest Joys: 1) Travis, 2) Riley, 3) Our Families, 4) My House, 5) Feeling Content

Five Favorite Toys: I totally need some new toys. 1) My knitting stuff, 2) My digital camera, 3) Cooking gagets, 4) The horses (they aren't toy's but they're a lot of fun), 5) ?

I can't keep track of who's done this and who hasn't, but if you haven't already done it, I'm tagging Diana and Grumperina (if you want to).

Now, on to knitting news. Backyard Leaves is finished! I finished it late last night and it's so pretty. Tonight it's scheduled for a swim in the sink and then the blocking board. I plan to have this finished this weekend and mailed off to Blossom on Monday. So, as you know, now that the scarf is finished it's time to start Frieda! I cast on last night and this morning have 10 rows of ribbing.

Have a great day.

A Birthday Present

My birthday is next week and I got my first birthday present in the mail yesterday. Have I mentioned that I love packages. Yes, I believe I have. Anyway, my sister ordered me yarn! She's the best - she might very well be the best sister ever (at least in my opinion - I know you all think your sisters are great too)! Oh, wait. It gets better. Not only did she order me yarn, but she ordered me Butterfly. Yarn and pattern for my very first fair isle project. And it arrived yesterday.

Butterfly1.JPG
Butterfly2.JPG

The yarn is so pretty and heathered and yummy. The pattern, well, the pattern seems kind of complicated. But what did I expect? It is fair isle after all. I'm sure once I sit down and actually start it, I'll figure it out, but it's kind of daunting upon first read. There's a little note in the package from Virtual Yarns with the happy birthday note from Stacy and the pattern has a personalized note from Jade Starmore - very nice touch. I'm pretty sure this project will take me the rest of the fall and all winter, but it's going to be fun (if I ever figure the pattern out).

Have a great day.

An Error On My Part

In my excitement about the zipper installation and my swatch for Frieda, I forgot to post the pattern information for the Zip Cardi. If you're like me, you're tired of looking at and hearing about this project, but in the interest of completeness, I decided I needed to post the specs.

full1.jpg

Pattern: Zip Cardigan from Phildar Spring 2005 Magazine

Yarn: Phildar Licorne in Persan (122)

Needles: US 2 and 3 Addi Turbos

Modifications: The pattern is designed to be knit in reverse stockinette stitch, but I chose to make in plain stockinette, which I'm much happier with.

Thoughts: This pattern took me forever and involved lots of learning on my part. In the beginning, I struggled with gauge and needles. I had issues with even, consistent tension. I switched yarn early on and decided against reverse stockinette stitch. Seaming took forever! The zipper was problematic, but was a great learning experience. I'm glad I made this sweater and I'm glad I now know much more than I did when I started. I'm happy with the fit and the finished sweater. So, I guess it's a win.

I Swatched

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments on the zipper and the Zip Cardi. I really, really appreciate all your kind words. Without your encouragement, I wouldn't have finished the sweater.

I didn't knit as much as I wanted to this weekend, but I did manage to get all our laundry done (how two people can create such huge amounts of laundry is really beyond me) and the house straightened up (which it desperately needed). That said, I did manage to make some good progress on Backyard Leaves. I didn't get it done, but I'm on the sixth repeat of eleven. So, that's about the same place I was on the first half after last weekend and I managed to finish the first half on Wednesday. This week is doable.

Also, I swatched for Frieda. Swatching and getting stitch and row gauge are especially important on this project because the pattern is written by row rather than by cm or inch. Getting gauge always makes me nervous because I'm a continental knitter and I guess that makes me a looser knitter than some. So, I worry. I did up a little swatch and let me tell you - the yarn is yummy. Really yummy. Oh so soft. I knit it up and measured. The gauge for the pattern is 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10 cm. I had 20 stitches and 24 rows to 10 cm. However, I learned my lesson on swatching with Tivoli - washing and allowing to dry is important to accurately reflect gauge. So, the swatch took a little swim in the sink and was laid out on a paper towel to dry. I'm also happy to report that the deep burgundy bled very little.

000_0868.JPG

After a while I had to measure again, even though the swatch isn't dry. I'm happy to report the gauge is now 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10 cm. What a relief. Now, as soon as I'm finished with Backyard Leaves I'm good to start Frieda.

A Successful Zipper Installation

The zipper is installed and it's much better than the first attempt. I used the sewing machine for this attempt and followed the directions from ChicKnits exactly (or I think I followed them exactly).

Step 1 - baste the front pieces together:

So, first I pinned the fronts together so things would stay even
safetypins.jpg

Next, I basted with some white cotton yarn:
baste1.jpg
baste3.jpg

Step 2 - Pin in the zipper
I pinned the right side of the zipper to the wrong side of the sweater:
pinzipper3.jpg

The zipper was too long, so I had to cut it to fit. Trav's horse shoe nail cutters worked great for cutting through the plastic with no effort on my part, then I cut the tape with scissors:
cutter.jpg

Step 3- Baste in the zipper
Then I hand-basted the zipper to the sweater with white thread:
bastezip2.jpg

Step 4- Sew in the zipper
It was now time for the machine. I used the zipper foot (see the sewing machine book in the background - I had to read about how to use the zipper foot):
foot.jpg

The zipper foot worked great and I was able to sew right next to the teeth:
sew1.jpg
sew2.jpg

Then, I sewed another seam on the outside of the zipper tape to hold it flat:
sew3.jpg

Here's what it looks like with the zipper in:
finished1.jpg

And, some modelled shots:
full1.jpg
full2.jpg

And the last one, a close up of the neckline with the zipper:
closeup.jpg

I'm much happier with this version - the zipper matches better, it's less bulky sewing it in with the machine, and it doesn't buckle. The neckline is still a bit stiff, but I'm not sure that's avoidable in this situation. The pattern requires a 2-way zipper and I could only find a #5 zipper, which I think is too heavy a zipper for this sweater, but what are ya gonna do? So, what do you all think?

Roma

I don't have a single new knitting thing to share (tonight is slated for the zipper installation - stay tuned) so, I'm stealing this quiz from Sarah. It's cute and I like the graphic. So, what city do you belong to?

You Belong in Rome
You're a big city girl with a small town heart

Which is why you're attracted to the romance of Rome

Strolling down picture perfect streets, cappuccino in hand

And gorgeous Italian men - could life get any better?

What City Do You Belong in? Take This Quiz :-)

Have a great weekend, and happy knitting.

The First Half

The first half of the Backyard Leaves scarf for SYNO is finished and I've cast on for the second half.

000_0839.JPG

The pattern is so pretty, look at those little leaves. I understand blocking it flattens them out somewhat, but I think I'll still love them.

000_0840.JPG

And the end - the end is simply brilliant - it's divided into 2 parts and each one is its own leaf.

000_0841.JPG

I've decided that aside from swatching for Frieda I'm going to finish this project before I start on another. I really have too many things going on to start another - Ronnie is still hanging out and I have that blanket to start. So, really, starting Frieda while I'm still working on Backyard Leaves might just fry my little brain. I am hopeful that I can get the scarf finished by this weekend, but really I need to learn to be flexible on such things.

Have a great day.

The Zipper Saga Continues

If you all remember, I ordered zippers from Zipper Stop and the first batch didn't work out so well. Well, I have confirmed that the original order was not what it was supposed to be. Instead of S557, I got A557 - the difference between teal and periwinkle. And instead of 830, I got 890 - a blue green and a forest green. I know this because I finally got smart and ordered a color card. I figured I'd need another zipper at some point in the near future so I thought it best to be able to choose the right color from the beginning and avoid this problem in the future. You might be interested to know that S557 would have worked just fine for the Zip Cardi. See.

zipper_chart2.JPG

It's the second one from the top - looks pretty close (even in my less than stellar picture). The third one down may be the best choice, but I don't have that color either - I have different colors. However, one of the second batch will work - I think. What do you think?

zipper.JPG

zipper2.JPG

I couldn't get a good picture of anything this morning, no matter what I tried - the first one is too dark and the second one is out of focus. I do realize that the color looks completely different between the two, but what can say except flash. If you think it will work, I'm going to get some thread and sew that sucker in this weekend. I'm really tired of dealing with it and I want it finished!

Speaking of finshed. Have you seen all the SYNO scarves that are being sent off to their new homes? I'm feeling guilty that I'm not yet finished with half of Blossom's scarf. Although I'm getting close to the half-way point. I have two repeats and the end to finish on the first half. It really does go pretty quickly, I just feel like I haven't had much knitting time lately and it's starting to make me cranky. Well, crankier than usual. I think I may hold off on Frieda (aside from swatching) and try to get the scarf finished. I know I'll feel better - I just don't do well with a lot of projects going on and as it is I have two going and I'm not sure starting a third would be a good idea (no, I'm not counting the stupid Zip Cardi in that number because I'm convinced it's going to be done this weekend). I guess that's all the ramblings I have for today. Have a great day.

Whirlwind Weekend

What a crazy weekend. We went to Travis' parents house to help them build fence. Not exactly my idea of a great time, but they do so much for us that we always like to help them with their projects. Fence building went as well as to be expected when you're building fence right next to a river - lots. of. rocks.

fence2.JPG

fence3.JPG

fence1.JPG

Aside from fence building, my mother-in-law and I picked out new carpet for her house (that's my idea of fun!) and rearranged her living room (again, fun!). I got in two runs while we were there and they went pretty well. I also finished the back of Ronnie - I knit on the drive up - about half of which was in the dark, but you gotta love stockinette stitch for travel knitting. I had a couple of row to finish up when we got there and managed to finish a piece of knitting! And Christmas knitting at that. I kept the stitches live because I want to do a 3 needle bind off for the shoulders and I don't really know why I'd bind off the neck stitches just to pick the same number back up later - so they're live too.

ronnieback.JPG

Pretty exciting stuff isn't it? Yeah, not really, but I'm on my way to being able to start on Frieda, which is exciting. Backyard Leaves came back out to play yesterday on the way home and we seem to be getting along famously again. I am on the eighth of eleven repeats and things are coming along nicely - this is a fun pattern, even though I can't memorize the pattern - my brain can't handle a 20 row repeat.

Have a great week.

An All New Shrug

Ok, so it really isn't all new, but it is improved. I got some elastic yesterday and last night after karate treaded that little stuff in the top and the bottom of the Ruffle Shrug according to Grumperina. You gotta love that Grumperina - she really is a genius. Here's how it looks now:

newback.JPG

A closer view:

closeback.JPG

And finally, a front shot with a smiling face, just so you all don't think I'm a complete grouch.

smiling.JPG

The elastic helped, no? It fits much better across the back - no more gapping. I have to say, I'm happy with this project. I'm headed to my in-laws for the weekend, but hope to have some knitting time while I'm there and on the trip to and from. My goal is to finish the back of Ronnie and the first half of Backyard Leaves. Only then will I allow myself to swatch for Frieda. Have a great weekend and don't forget to relax and knit a bit.

I Love Packages!

All packages, even if I had to pay for them my very own self. There's just something about a box waiting for me that makes me slightly giddy.

boxes.JPG

And there was a padded envelope from Dani in the mail box too! Look what was inside:

HP.JPG

Yes, ladies and gents, that is handpainted Harry Potter sock yarn! Gryffindor colors, of course. It is oh so pretty and yummy in person. If you haven't ordered some sock yarn from Dani - go do it right now! It's great stuff. Even Riley was excited.

riley.JPG

Back to the boxes. The first box was from Road Runner Sports and included some running goodies. I realize running stuff is no where close to as exciting as yarn, but I figure if I have to run I might as well be comfortable. Right? (Darn, I'm good at this justification thing). So anyway, the running box had new shorts, a sports bra, and a watch.

running.JPG

The sports bra is supposed to be designed for the busty amongst us, and I have to tell you, I test drove it last night and it works pretty well (I know, more info than you really wanted, but what can I say, I'm a sharer). The shorts were just because I wanted some comfy shorts and the watch because my old watch was on it's last leg (and it was really hard to read the numbers through the paint splatters).

The second box? The second box was from Knit Happens and was full of the best yarn you've ever seen (or felt for that matter).

KH.JPG

Look at that will you. A box full of Alpaca Silk. If that isn't heaven, I don't know what is. Look at the pretty color - Burgundy.

AlpacaSilk.JPG
ASSun.JPG

Riley was very impressed. In fact, he thought it might be a new toy.

riley2.JPG

He was very disappointed to discover it was "just" yarn and not a squeaker in sight. The alpaca silk is destined to be Frieda and I really want to cast on right now, but I'm exercising restraint. Are you shocked, because I kind of am. I'm very close to finishing the back of Ronnie and I need to see if Backyard Leaves is ready to behave. So, maybe I'll be able to start on Frieda by next week some time.

That's about it for me. I can't believe it's already Thursday - I do so love these short work weeks! Have a great day and happy knitting.

Ruffle Shrug

The Ruffle Shrug is finished, or mostly finished.

shrug1.JPG

ruffle.JPG

seam.JPG

back.JPG

I'm not crazy about the back, but it needs some elastic ala Grumperina, which I hope will help a little bit with the tendency to be uneven and to bag when I stand up straight. After I put that in it needs a good blocking. I ended up using a three needle bind off, which left a seam, but at least the ribbing matches up.

Pattern Specs:
Pattern: Shrug from Purly Whites

Ruffle: Eyelette Point Ruffle from Knitting on the Edge

Yarn: Knit Picks Shine in Cream - 6 balls

Needles: Size 5 Lantern Moons

Thoughts: Overall I'm happy with this project. I need to fix the back and should have done the three needle bind off at one ruffle to hide it a bit. If I can get some elastic to fix the back and give it a good blocking (I didn't do that because I was anxious to show you), I'll be much happier with it. The sleeves are snug when I first put it on, but the cotton stretches, so I think the fit will be good. I deliberately made the sleeves long because I like long sleeves.

Grafting?

I suck at it. Despite excellent instructions from Pumpkin Mama and instructions with pictures from Claudia I still couldn't get it right. I now understand the concept, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why my ribs won't line up.

grafting1.JPG

grafting2.JPG

I tried it twice and it was the same both times - ribs that don't match up. Any of you knitting geniuses out there have an idea of what I'm doing wrong? Any advise is greatly appreciated. The Knitters Book of Finishing Techniques suggests knitting a couple of rows in waste yarn and binding off and then using those stitches as a guide for grafting. It's next on my list to try if I can't come up with a better solution.

Backyard Leaves and I had a bit of a trying weekend. Every single time I picked it up to knit on it I made some stupid mistake and had to rip back to fix it. So, I finished the fifth repeat and put it away for a couple of days. I took Ronnie out and am working on it this week on my commute - nothing beats stockinette stitch for mindless, mistake-proof knitting (aka stupid knitting!). Maybe I will be able to finish the back and will be closer to having one Christmas gift finihsed.

My relaxing weekend really didn't turn out to be that relaxing. Travis decided that we needed to paint the trim, front door, and porch this weekend. Super fun. So, Saturday I painted the door, went for a run, and got my hair done (that part was relaxing, but that's where the problems with Backyard Leaves started). Sunday, more painting and then there was some hay hauling, and another run. Oh, and if you haven't made Dani's cookies (the recipe is in the August 10th post), you really should. They're fabulous. Yesterday was painting and knitting (mostly to fix Backyard Leaves and trying to graft that stupid Shrug). All in all it was a very productive weekend, just not the relaxing one I had in mind. Today is Monday on Tuesday, so who knows what craziness will ensue, but you can bet there'll be some. Have a great day, and happy knitting.

I Really Don't Have Much

I don't have a lot going on today. I'm really excited for the long weekend - I need time at home to decompress and finish up some knitting projects (Ruffle Shrug anyone?). But as I contemplate sitting in my nice house with my dog and my horses and cat outside I can't help but think of all the people who don't have homes and pets who don't have homes or owners (don't even get me started on people abandoning their pets and livestock - I'll just get angry). So, as I look forward to the weekend, I can't help but feel sad and a little bit guilty. I'm so far removed from the devestation it doesn't really seem real to me. I know it is - I can see that from the television, but I guess I can't really process what it all means. Does that make me a bad person? Maybe an unfeeling one, I don't know. So, I guess I'll just go about my life and think of those who are homeless and do what I can to help by donating to the Red Cross.

I hope you all have a nice weekend - enjoy your day off from work. Happy knitting and relaxing.

More Leaves

I'm on the third repeat of the Backyard Leaves pattern and I am in love. I can already tell that I'm going to have to make another one of these lovely scarves. Yummy.

The green is really hard to photograph - it's a lot greener and prettier than it looks in my subpar photos. Trust me. I'll have to try to get a natural light shot this weekend so you can really see.

I'm still working on the zipper saga, although I think I found 2 teal zippers from Zipper Stop that might work (and I'm gettting a color card too - for next time).

I did my first run last night. I ran for 5 minutes, walked for 3 minutes 3 times. My new shoes are good (I think) and my legs aren't sore today. So, run #2 tomorrow night. Riley was so excited he was barking and running around before we got out the door. Do you think the dog needs some exercise? Wow.

Have a great day. Happy knitting.
