Help
I really need some help here. I've decided on the Turtleneck Shrug from Scarf Style for my scarf for SYNO. The pattern calls for Rowan Kid Classic, which is 70% lambswool, 26% mohair, and 4% nylon and is aran weight. Now comes the help part. I really want to get fabulous yarn to send off to my secret scarf knitter and am not sure what to choose. Do any of you have any idea or suggestions? It would have to be something I can find on-line and I'm thinking of a solid rather than varigated yarn. I know you all will provide great ideas. Thanks in advance!

I would go with either Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran or Jo Sharp Aran Tweed. I personally think the Jo Sharp Aran Tweed would be fabulous, as it would give just a little bit of color and depth to the solid yarn. I was actually planning to use the Jo Sharp to knit this shrug, but finally decided that it isn't soft enough for my delicate little neck. I'll probably have to go with something 100% silk or 100% cashmere, but I haven't found any viable options yet. Such is the life of a picky knitter!
If you do decide to go with the Jo Sharp, check out the Wool Shack (google it). It's in Australia and is the only place on-line that has the new colorways for this yarn. You can also check out Jo Sharp's website for the all the available colorways. The new ones for this year are quite delightful.

So you don't want to go with Kid Classic? How about Debbie Bliss' Alpaca Silk? There is also Karabella's Aurora 8, which I've never used, but heard is nice. Or the very soft Morehouse Merino?
Maybe browse through the Yarndex and check out yarns at this gauge:

Are you looking for a substitue entirely? A nice alpaca blend would be nice. It would give it a little fuzz. Perhaps something combined with merino so it has some stability. 100% alpaca would drap too much.

Hmmm, I like the Cashmerino, although I haven't used it personally and I hear it sometimes pills. But the JO Sharp someone mentioned is also good. I hear wonderful things about Blue Sky Alpaca, but again I haven't knit with this. I'm not much help am I.

I have to ditto Diane's suggestion for DB Alpaca Silk. I couldn't stop petting it at the store and finally bought some. I think the colors (and they are only solids) are lustrous and vibrant. KR has a review of the yarn.

I love cashmerino aran...but yes, it does pill with wear. It is a fabulous yarn, beautiful against the skin. Elann.com just got some Elizabeth Lavold Angora...looks fun, but I've never used angora. They usually have some good selections of yarns or Knitwerx.com is good as well.
