Excuse Me While I Complain

If you don't want to hear me complain about my crappy job, you might want to scroll down to the stuff on knitting. I'll try to keep it short, I promise. Ok, I work for the State and sometimes politics just sucks. There's no other way to describe it. We had a lady leave the office about 6 weeks ago who had been here for 25 years. I'm taking over her work and they've hired someone new for my job. I asked my boss a month ago if I could have her nice office if he wasn't going to put anyone else in it. The new girl starts Monday, so we need to know who's going where. So, yesterday afternoon (nothing like waiting til the last minute to make a decision) he decides that he's going to put someone who's been here less than a year in the nice big corner office rather than let me have it. Talk about pissed. I know it's just an office and it shouldn't matter, but in the environment I work in where people get fired for little or no reason, it seems that all we have are the little things. So, I've decided to renew my job search. I really don't think I'm going to be happy here in the long run, and it's time to step up my search. The problem is figuring out what I want to do with my life. Any of you know any great jobs for a lawyer (even if it isn't as an attorney)?

Ok, thanks for letting me vent. Now, on to knitting. I'm on row 37 of the Lotus Blossom Shawl and I'm really liking the pattern. It's pretty simple (at least so far) and it's going quickly because there aren't that many stitches yet.

I'm finding the joins on the Bryspun needles a bit difficult, but I keep hoping it'll get better as I get more stitches on the needle. We'll just have to wait and see.

And I remembered to take a picture of the rainbow sherbet sock. It's about 15 cm and I need 20 before I shape the heel. I think the colors are perfect for a summer ankle sock. What do you think?

So, that's it for me. I hope today is better than yesterday and I hope you all have a great day.

um...you could move to Buffalo and process mineral leases for the BLM?

I'm glad that the Bryspuns are working better than the Addis in terms of smoothness, and I agree, the joins can be a little difficult to work with. That's the only down side I've noticed so far, the stitches get stuck in there. Let us know how you like them as you get further along in the project....

argh, I hate when companies do things like this.. the little perks are so valuable to employees, do they really have no clue? Good luck with the job search!

The shawl is looking great, and the sock patterning is great fun - love the random striping.

Thats stinkie that you are having job woes.. I am in the same boat, so feel free to vent to me anytime! How about looking at some environmental lawyer jobs?! I always thought that would be cool (I'm a water resources scientist).

Love your knits too. Hope you have a better day!

I'm sorry you've having a hard time with your job. I was in a similar situation a few months back. In fact, it was toxic and part of the reason I took leave of my blog for a while as some shit went down that just blew me over.

Anyway, good luck with your search. I'm sure you'll find something better out there. It sounds as though it can't get any worse. Unless of course, you happened to work for the company I spoke of above! ;0)

Ok, the joins are my problem with most needles especially when lace knitting. So I am glad you said something about these needles...because I am really tempted but if the joins suck...I ready have sucky joins needles! That is why I love addis...but they are no good for lace knitting...the ends are too blunt. My next needle venture will be to try the addi bamboos...

LB is coming along great so far! Hopefully the joins on the needles won't be too big of a problem.

Bummer about the work situation. :( As far as jobs, the best non-lawyer law jobs that I can think of are mediator/arbitrator or law professor. If you could start your own practice, that would be nice too - no more office politics!

Sorry to hear about the job woes. It baffles me how unappreciative management can be of someone who's already in the job, up to speed, and performing well -- while turning handsprings over new folks. (I've been in my position for four years. Folks new to the job recently got the new souped-up laptops with docking stations, while I'm waiting for my "turn" in the upgrade cycle to trade in my desktop unit. Hmmph. They should move the older, existing computers to the new folks and let us have first crack at the new stuff. I know it's extra work for the tech folks, but darn it. It's hard not to be resentful. I say all this to say, "My sympathies! I've been there!")

The shawl looks lovely by the way, and I was also interested to hear your feedback on the needles. As a relatively new knitter, it always helps me to find out what other knitters are thinking about products.

Best of luck with the stitching and (ha) the bitching. ;o)

Oops, I also meant to say I *love* the sherbety colors of the socks!

Re the job hunt: Be sure to check out the fedex.com job postings. I don't know about legal positions, but it's a good place to work (aside from the occasional annoying "Why didn't I get one of the new computers?" situation).

Cheers -- Carolyn B.

I told my boss that the reason I wanted to move offices (at the time, I sat next to him) was because the new person he was about to hire would "benefit from being able to sit next to him." It worked! Now he has to walk down the hall or call me, instead of sitting at his desk and yelling my name. Nice, huh?!

I'm so sorry your having bad work time, that's just no fun. Let's see how about opening up your own law firm/yarn store, wouldn't that be fun! Oh I could think of a lot of "fun" jobs, they are just not that plausible. But I'm sure with your talents something will turn up, hmmm, maybe Dr. Mohair needs a personal attorney :-)

The shawl is looking great, keep us posted on the joins, that's a big issue with me and circulars.

And love, love, love the sock colors. Definitely summery. Of course I"m wearing summery colored wool socks, but my feet are always cold.

what kind of sock yarn did you use? i love the color!

Yuck! Good luck with your search!

LOVE that sock and the shawl is gorgeous!

Oh my, sorry about the bad work woes. That would bring anyone down. I hope things get better--or you find something that you like more. Good luck.

Your sock is really looking pretty. I love those stripes.

Take care~
